I think the angle is better with the pillar bar, but no way in hell I'm trusting my life to the strength of that bar.
Grab that bar and tug on it a bit.
Its not that sturdy.

i'd wouldn't do that unless it's specifically desgined to be a harness bar...one of the regular old pillar tie-bars might not be built heavy enough to withstand a heavy load like it would see in a crash.
also, many people will say that something like the configuration shown above(on the c-pillar)will make the shoulder harness too long, allowing too much stretch in the belt.

luu, dont get a harness unless you have a cage, you have absolutly no need for one.
yea they are cool and all, but pointless at this point with your car. The safty risks of having a harness in your car with out a cage are not worth the coolness factor

no way I would trust mounting harnesses on that pillar bar. I've pulled on my J's Racing pillar bar and the thing is flimsy. The only way to mount them would be to wrap the shoulder harnesses around the harness bar of a roll bar:

You have it bolted to the floor of your car? That is not good because if you are in a head-on or other collision where you are hit from the front your spine can be compressed by the harness, that is why you are not supposed to run them like that.
i wasn't saying the floor...right behind the seat..
you can mount them farther back and get a pretty good angle..
but not recommended since if your in a harness, with out a roll bar or cage..
and the car rolls you have nothing to protect your knoggin..and the harness will keep you in place wile the roof finds your head..

do it the right and SAFE way, or don't do it at all.
Only time I can see mounting a harness not in the correct manner, would be for an autocross, to hold you in the seat only...not for safety reasons

Will they even let you pass tech that way?

matter on the region.. in SD they will let you..
Another trick is to take the stock seat belt and twist it once before you clip it in..
and once you clip it, sinch it...and that should keep you in a little better..
if you have a motorized seat..I have seen BMW drivers set there set belt with the seat a little back..and then sinch it by using the motor to snug it up
