Rod Bolt Question
I have a ITR short block and want to put the ARP rod bolts on. I just want to have a good idea of what I am getting into. What seems like a relatively simple process appears to involve more than first expected.
My Q's are:
1.- Can they be installed while still in the block?
2.- If need to be removed do they need to be pressed in by machine shop?
3.- If pistons conn / rods need to be pulled do you need to replace rings and rehone to accomodate them?
4.- If bearings look good is it a good idea to replace anyways? Motor has 15 thousand miles?
TIA

1.- Can they be installed while still in the block?
i guess it is possible, never did or seen it done wouldnt recomend it.
2.- If need to be removed do they need to be pressed in by machine shop?
they are a cap screw and should thread in and out no problem
3.- If pistons conn / rods need to be pulled do you need to replace rings and rehone to accomodate them?
if you are getting that far, and it is used, it may be a good idea to, i have never reassembled with used parts.
4.- If bearings look good is it a good idea to replace anyways? Motor has 15 thousand miles?
i have put new rod bearings in with the crank in the car. look at them. it may be a good idea to.
how hard are you leaning on the engine? you may not need to go that far into it if you arent leaning on it that hard.

Was doing a little research and saw someone say that the rod bolts must be pressed in by machine shop (~$50). I guess that scratches the idea of installing while in the block. Can anyone else confirm this?
I would replace rings if I took out the assembly so basically what I am getting at is that replacing the connecting rod bolts is not such a plug and play affair.
Anyone care to add?

yea i would advise you to have a machine shop press them in, thats what i did for my ls rods. anyways, when the new rod bolts are put on and torqued they may distort the roundness of the rod thus you need to have them checked for clearance. so i'd avise bringing them to the shop and having them properly pressed and then have them check to see if they are in spec.
