Free Turbo Engine!!....not a Honda :-(
At my high school, you have to do a senior project to graduate, and mine was going to be to design and build a FI setup for some sort of Honda motor. A good family friend of mine who builds hot rods, and had a full 2.3L Ford Turbo motor sitting in his shop that he wasn't using, along with a rebuilt one going in a '28 P/U, another stock one sitting in the '28 and a shortblock. Well he called me up this afternoon and said he'd like to help me out with my project and told me he wanted to give me the shortblock. I was more than happy, free motor =
and said I'd stop by later. When I got there, he told me he decided to give me a different one that was a full motor, with the turbo setup and everything. So we moved some stuff around, some cars out, loaded it up into his truck and brought it to my house! Now I have a FI motor to tinker with, and it was all free
I'm going to open it up in a few weeks and see what the bottom end looks like and if i need to rebuild it, and if not I probably will anyway. Eventually it will make its way into a Mustang, T-Bird maybe even a Pinto
mated to a T-5. Even though its not a Honda, its something to learn on, and I plan to still get some sort of Honda engine this summer, although it would remain on the back burner for a while.
Anyway, just thought I'd brag a little
since I got a free engine

2.3T into a Ford Ranger is always an interesting swap.
Whatever way you go, you may find that the Merkur XR4ti wiring harness is easy to remove from the original vehicle and install into whatever chassis you decide on.

Thanks, I've been wondering about what harness I'll use, as this is T-Bird non-intercooled motor, but it will be intercooled later
. I'm going to be doing a lot of junkyard hunting with this project, but thats not always a bad thing.
I remember you mentioning the 2.3T motor in another post, are you pretty familiar with these?

which turbo manifold does it have? the E3 or the E6?? If it's got the E3 manifold I suggest you check it real good all over for cracks.
with it being non-intercooled it's at least not an 87-87 t-bird engine that's for sure. Oh yeah, which fuel injectors does it have? the brown tops or the other ones?

Yeah, I hang out with a lot of Ford guys, the friend who built the turbo Justy owns a Merkur.
Brown tops are 35 lb/hr, the green tops you find on automagic cars are 30 lb/hr. Multiply 10.345 by X lb/hr = cc/min.

I'm pretty sure it has the E3 manifold, but the thing is so damn dirty and for the next couple weeks I've got to get caught up on school so it will be a while before I can get it off to be sure. I plan on picking up an E6 manifold anyway, and porting it so I'm not worried if this manifold is cracked. You should see the kind of shape the turbo is in
EDIT I'm not sure which injectors it has as I haven't gotten a good look at them yet, and the entire motor has a nice coating of black over it

Ive got a set of brown tops 35 lb/hr. I also have the inector harness and fuel rail from a turbo coupe. Hit me up if your in need of these parts or any others, i have a bunch and can get about anything. Also check out turbofords.org

The whole engine is pretty much complete, minus some ignition stuff, and I went to go see today if I could tell what kind of injectors are on the motor but they're covered in black just like everything else. In a couple weeks I'm going to take off the turbo, intake/exhaust manifolds, and when I do that I'll be able to tell what kind of injectors I've got. I'll be sure to contact you though if I do find I'm missing anything. Thanks! I'm also going to give the whole engine a cleaning, which will be a project in and of itself.
The guy who gave me the engine has a son who built a 2.3T and put it in a Pinto
Its fast for a Pinto, like 13s fast. Hes also building a twin-turbo 5.0 racecar. Good stuff
