Speed Trial USA is holding a track day at GingerMan Raceway Oct. 20
The topic says the majority of it. SpeedTrial USA is a driving school for all levels of enthusiasts. The event is on Saturday, October 20 at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven MI. This is a beautiful and safe roadcoarse that is also technical. Cost for the day is $130 which is considerably cheaper than getting a ticket for 100mph! You need a Snell 95 approved helmet or better and if you own an S2000, the factory roll cage is acceptable, though not recommended.

Just my $.02...
As a (semi-) local, let me tell you guys that Gingerman is a LOT of fun! It's relatively flat and wide most of the way around, but keeps a few secrets nonetheless (Extra points for figuring out the fast line through 2). A perfect track to spend a single day on, especially if you're setting up the car, etc. I consider it my "baseline" track, 'cause it's easy to spin consistent laps at 9/10ths.
If you go, you'll be pleased to see lots of runoff and gravel traps placed away from the edge of the corners (a blessing for small hiccups and street cars) along with a virtually blemish-free surface. So what are you waiting for?!

Well, distance is not the only reason I am not going.. Since I am in school, working weekends is about the only way I can keep my car on the track! If I miss a weekend, BIG cut in pay
Why don't you and Bryan make the trip up in his ITR, that would be fun. He is begging to try out the hoosiers

Geez Jon. You MUST be getting old cuz uh... I think I know what I'd pick in a comparable situation.
BTW, better hope she never finds this post, heheh.
Corey, just think: the 900 miles to Gingerman would be 100 short of what I'd have been trying to do to get to Speedtrial... and weren't you the one who called me a wuss for not doing it?
just kiddin
Chris, definitely a 19-year-old

::Grumble:: yep... it truly would be worth 1000 miles... but it wouldn't be worth 4000 miles. I have 2 or 3 exams on the 11th-12th.
~Chris, who wants track time but realizes that he has NO exams which will require under 15-20 hours of studying, and subsequently no track-time. welcome to engineering...

Like I said, i would go, but I gotta work that weekend
. I hate work
I will have to see how my pocket book looks because I just bought a house and thus my funds are pretty low. I was at VIR in July when King Motorsports was racing there and it looks awesome. I truly believe it is worth the drive and hope to make it. The other dilema that Speed Trial is holding an event the following weekend at Laguna Seca. Choices, choices.
Oh yeah, VIR is about 1200 miles from Chicago.

Hey LS,
Nope, don't drive a red hatch, but one of my friends does. I actually have a 98 Prelude, black and the only thing you can really tell that was done is the Mugen exhaust. I actually live in Lake Zurich and judging by the distance you are from Chicago, I would guess that you are not too far away!
You are very welcome to come out and watch. Bring your helmet and take a ride with a few people if you want. Tentatively, we are planning on meeting Friday night at Performance Bike Shop (Lake-Cook and Skokie Blvd) around 7 and then grab a bite to eat and then off to South Haven. You are welcome to "caravan" with us if you like.

I'd love to do Speed Trial USA Laguna Seca, that'd be like a dream. That's, what, 3,000 miles away?
I'm thinking of flying out for the Dec 15-16 Speedtrial @ Laguna, mostly because it's also a USTCC race weekend, and well, because it's on my list of tracks to drive before I die.
The way airfare is lately, I can get out there and back for like $250. That's so cheap I would hate myself if I *didn't* go!
Anybody care to join me?

Round trip to CA (from DC Metro area) was $250 on Priceline even before everyone was afraid of flying. I flew to LA for a weekend in early August.
If you fly there, what would you drive? Or just spectate?

I would borrow/rent a car from one of the west coast Speedtrial guys, or just rent the nicest car I could find at the airport (Mustang or whatever). As I've said before, I can have a blast in *anything* on a racetrack.

As for flights, yeah, cheaper than $250 would be fine too. When I made my Vegas/SEMA reservations during the summer, I paid $310 and thought that was decent. Now the same flight is like $170.
