Default Car won't start ... probably due to starter and Spoon flywheel

I got an Exedy clutch and Spoon flywheel installed this past week. Everything is fine ... car drives nicely ... etc ... but every once awhile, the car won't start. I mean, I turn the key and hear the starter just spinning. It's not grinding like people claim with some JDM flywheels. I just hear a whinning sound ... like the sound of something spinning real fast. It just spins and nothing - the engine doesn't start. I could do this 4-6 times within 10 mins. and the car won't start. Then after like an hour, it would start nicely again.

I can't figure it out.

Any comments?

the last time I heard a sound like the one you described was when my battery was near death.....

I don't care what anybody says...but the only way to cure the starter - JDM flywheel problem in my personal exp. is to change the stock Integra Denso starter with one from an SiR/Si which is a Mitsuba....

If you remove them, the differences are evident on the input shaft....after I changed mine out, I never EVER grinded again. The Mitsuba starter is a bit weaker though so it'll take 1-2 more cranks before the motor fires up. The weakness was also evident when I was doing a comp. test....starter always sounded like it was gonna die.

Best of luck....

I've not had a single problem with my Spoon flywheel with the stock starter in the last 6 months. In that time, the tranny has been off 3 times and reinstalled. Must be either the install job or your battery as Angel said.

Next time it happens put the car in gear, put down the brake, open the door and rock the car back and froth with your leg. Then try starting it again. That's assuming it isn't grinding grinding, just not meshing.

I can tell you that the battery is brand new - not even 2 months old.

so that means the starter is turning but not jumping out to contact the flywheel...?
bad starter?
~is it getting jammed in its housing so it cannot move out to the flywheel?
~or, is the flywheel gear too far for the starter to reach it?
~or, is the food I just ate perplexing me too much so I can fathom even more possibilities?

*note to self, do not eat one-week-old rigatoni....
