Default ah ****.... threw my balance shaft belt for no reason whatsoever... I have a Q though!!!!

Im sitting at a stop light and go to take off and motor is running noticably ruffer...
vibrating like crazy.
Pull over and sure enough my balance shaft belt it laying right there on my alternator ripped in half.
I have no idea how this happened. The T-belt is fine, there is no odd objects near the t-belt. I dont have Timing covers right now because The original ones were no good, and i had to order new ones.

anyways, My question is Does the balance shaft belt drive the oil pump, cuz i just drove this thing home like 5 minutes praying it didn't drive the oil pump. I started it up, and pulled the oil cap off and it seemed like it had oil pressure.

it drove ok, Im just hoping i didnt **** anything up.
Its and f20b, not that it matters

hondaddict makes plugs for the balance shaft holes. Yes it is fine to drive to the shop to get a new belt.
edit: didn't see the F20b, I though that it was an H22 from the looks of the valve cover. If it's setup the same as an H22 you'll be fine, but I don't know much about F20b's

Its same as h22..
so the balance shaft belt does not drive the oil pump in any way?

You're fine. The oil pump is driven off of the flats on the crank snout. I run my H22's with the balance shaft belt removed all of the time.

When I built my new motor I never hooked up the shafts either, no biggy...

The guy above is right the oil pump turns off the flats on the end of the crank, although it looks like it runs off the balence shaft...

No problem on the belt. If the engine is running, the oil pump is turning.
I just remove the shafts when building an H22. I do not use the plug kit but do it with freeze plugs installed in the proper places in the motor. Don't need to touch the half shaft cam bearings either.

so why was his car shaking when it broke?

i woulden't trust that Tbelt without taking it off and CLOSELY inspecting it. I'de replace it probably. good thing you got covers for that thing now!

It wasnt shaking, just vibrating/running ruff because the balance shafts werent spinning anymore.
I dont think i want to remove them at this point. to much vibration and not enough power gain. Ill leave them in for now.

But yea i got all the parts today, im going to tear it all down and see if come across something goofy and throw the covers on.
THe noise is whats got me worried when the car is idling now.
I could be somehting else though, i cant tell where its coming from
Thanks guys
