Yeah, I remember the last one of these events held by this group - nothing but bad news! If you want to endanger your life or your car in any way, this is the event to attend.

Rainman, what are you talking about,i thought you enjoyed having someone ride your bumper through 80 mph sweepers with no helmet. And hell, the possibility of having a tool or two stolen only adds to the excitement.
Guess you cant please all the people all the time.

Actually, Shannonville is a great track to drive on. Just one wall on the front straight and the rest is all wide open with no elevation changes. It doesn't get any better than this to learn on for beginners or to drive 10/10ths if you're experienced. That incident I read about that happened last time was due to a car hitting a tire wall at an angle at relatively slow speed and flipped over (correct me if this is wrong, I wasn't there). This can happen anywhere, but in most other places you'll find a concrete wall and not a tire wall. There are much more dangerous tracks out there that this. Shannonville reminds me a lot of Roebling Road or little Talladega - very forgiving. And of course no organizers in the world can possibly make sure that no body goes over their heads and goes off the track.
I really wish to go up there again one day... that's the first track I ran on and where pretty much everything started.

Hracer,
You are absolutely correct - Shannonville is a technical track, and a very safe one at that. I love racing and lapping there, however, those features will always be over-shadowed by ricky-racer wannabe groups that have no idea how to hold a safe event.
There will always be the possibility of an accident on the track, that's just part of the sport. But all smart drivers and organizing groups do what they can in advance to minimize those risks. Many people who have attended one (and only one!) of these particular events ended up leaving early because the event was so poorly run.
Case in point - I attended an event earlier this year and witnessed:
- the organizer speeding (50 mph) through the narrow pits with cars parked on both sides
- no flaggers at any corners
- no common sense rules such as wear a seat belt, helmet
- no pulling drivers off the track who are obviously reckless (one guy spun 3 times on the SAME lap!)
- although it is advertised as lapping, there are plenty of idiots including the organizer who think it more appropriate to race. If they want to race then they should let people know in advance
Bottom line, if you have never attended one of these events hosted by this group, save your money and possibly your ride/life. There are plenty of well organized groups out there that will ensure a safe and enjoyable day at the track (Dexter, ADG, BMW Club, etc). When it comes to track days, you really do get what you pay for. After all it costs money to secure paramedics, experienced marshals, and starters for the day.

haha Alex!
I fully agree with rainman. I have attended a few lapping days with this group and it is just awful. One time, we had to stop lapping for an hour because there were 4 cars off the track stuck at the same time!! Their beginners group is like the ricers club trying to show off to thier girlfreinds. Many of them are very young and have daddys money to play with, so it seems like they don't care if they crash there road car.
BTW rainman, how's the project coming along?

ITR Racer,
Man, I haven't talked to you in ages! The car is complete, at least for the time being. The cage went in back in April I think and I finally got the custom valved Konis in May (3.5 month wait!). I've decided that the engine will never be touched, except maybe to blueprint, but not until I get some extra $$ coming in. I wanted so much to go regional racing this year but time/money didn't allow it, but I do have every intention of participating in 3-4 events next year.
I guess the next thing on the agenda is to perhaps upgrade the springs from 600/900 lb to 900/1200 lbs, although I'm really not too sure yet.
How about yourself? Did you get to run any regionals this year?

rainman, yeah it's been quite a long time...
naww, i did'nt race at all this year. I think my licence is over. I may have to take the HRC school or some other school again. I was really aching to get back into it but solo-1 just doesn't do it for me and racing is just so expensive. Hopefully, i can race next year. Looking to buy a project car.

Well, if I didn't give the CRX to my step bro that would make a good one. He actually put carpet and door panels in it, and of course the requisite rolling stereo store. Who knows when he'll get bored of it.
That's the reason I want to wait to do regional racing. I know as soon as I do it once I'll lose interest in Solo I. That's how it was when I started doing Solo I instead of Solo II. I would hardly consider going out to a Solo II now. That took no time to happen. Arghhhh!
We're pretty lucky to have such a good Solo I series though. It seems that the US Solo I serieses (series'?)(serii?) require cages for every car. Wow, I couldn't imagine how our series would be if we had regulations like that. That might explain why Solo II has such a limited audience here compared to Solo I.
Anyway... WOO HOO!!! I'm picking up my car today!!!
