When you take your car to the shop ... dont use the remote start ever .. ESPECIALLY if the car is a 5spd.. If you dont have a neutral saftey system (auto start wont work if car is in gear) get one .. I'm looking into it after I repair this

The shop I just went to left it in gear, I had been to a couple other shops recently for unrelated stuff and my car wasn't left in gear .. but this time ..

I was beside my car brushing snow off and hit the auto start and it launched forward .. it rear ended the truck parked in front of me .. its a pretty horrid feeling watching your car drive on its own rear ending another vehicle and watching the hood/headlight crunch down .. Found the owner of the truck, there was only a scratch where the bumper pushed against the body beneath the tailgate, he said no worries .. PHEW .. but now im stuck with the above .. I could cry

its not ONLY shops, people you let drive your car. manual cars are NOT supposed to have remote start for that problem only. i let my friend test drive my car and he always leaves it in gear and my car jumped hit a curb, no real damage though.

just get a new hood and fender.

Yohan, A friend of mine had the same thing in the work car park, left it in gear, pressed the button and it run forward and just stopped cranking in time about 3 foot away from another car!

Ive got the Clifford Concept alarm; it has the in gear protection you talk about;
When you set it the engine has to be running, you pass ignition controll over to the alarm using the remote, then remove your ignition key so straight away it knows it out of gear as the engine is running. Then arm your car, alarm locks up, stops engine, closes the windows and turns on the radar.
If you open a door after disarming it it will not start; you start it while its locked up, also if a door is ajar or boot, bonnet etc then it wont start; pretty safe system, clifford.com Have a look at the specs on them, the 600 is an extremly advanced alarm, you might wanna consider changing it out.

Definitly need a new bonnet thoug; under where it is bent there is the support frame and it blocks access to the ridge so it would always have a kink in it otherwise. I think the wing (fender?) shown could have the edge pushed out and filled if its not too sharpe a dint.

I work at tweeter and anything by DEI is awesome stuff. I.E. Clifford, Viper, Avital..... they own a ton of companies. Putting a remote start in a 5 spd is easy you just have to know what you're doing. You can catch the starter wire after the clutch so you dont need the clutch to be in to start it. Other than that its cake.

Thx for the support and Advice OTT.

The vender looks like it can be bent out and filled, I had a good luck on the underside of the hood and the under support frame (?) isn't bent at all so its only surface damage .. the hood I think its just a tad out of alignment as well along the fender .. pushed down a bit ..

I dont know what may have bent behind the headlight to have pushed it in but it wont come out and its WAAY out of alignment .. about the height of brights .. I'm going to try and take off my corner lamp and check if I can see anything .. helms didnt give much of a description ..

heh, glad I wasn't in front of the car

Get an Autostart...they make them specifically for manual transmissions as well as autos...www.autostart.ca
They have remote start/keyless only, alarm/start/keyless, and a two-way system for manuals too.
I have one on my WRX and it works great..no need to worry about leaving it in gear.

Yohan; When I was talking about the hood, I mean that the suface may be dinted but because of the metal 'frame' of hood being in the way; you will have great difficulty in pushing the dint out alont the 'snarl'/bulged line of hood.
So basically it will never look right along the aggressive contours of the hood.

Even a little dint along that line is pretty much unrepairable. Like I say you cant get behind it to push it out enough the be able to smoothe it with filler so the line will always look messed up.

As for the light you may have broke the clips on the casing or even (but doubt full bent the inner front panel (that it mnounts onto) back.

Bright green? I doubt youve damaged the radiator; you put screen wash into your windscreen washbox before it was broken so thats probly what it is.
