Hondata question (RSX-S)
I want to purchase the K20A2-4: 5200 VTEC point and 8600 rpm REV limit for my Type S, but I do not want to have problems with my warranty with Acura.
This is my question.... Can I purchase a used ECU off another Type S, Flash that one and keep my own ECU if ever I have problems.
This way, if something screws up, I can swap the ECU to my stock one and bring it into Acura....
Thanx !

I am sure you could purchase another ecu, Problem is the immobilizer unit has to be programmed with the ecu you are going to use...It doesn't sound possible.

What if he was to send the ECU he bought along with his current immobilizer and key to hondata and toss his exisiting ECU to the side?
If something goes wrong, he should be able to just plug his old ECU back in and it should work should it not?

If you get a another ECU you can have the dealer program the immobilizer for 100 bucks. Hondata can also flash you car to stock for 75 bucks I think. by this I mean they can make the fuel map and timings stock.

So then if he sends his new ECU in to be programmed with that immobilizer, effectively both ECUs should be ok to be used with that 1 immobilizer then?

You can purchase another ECU and send that one with the immobilizer and key to be flashed. Both ECU's will then be matched to the same key and immobilizer, so you can swap them. The dealer cannot detect a Hondata reflash and Hondata will swap the stock flash in if you need to have any heavy work performed.

Do you know when the engine over-speed condition code will come up?
After 8,100 the factory ecu records the freeze-data.
And throws that code....Once the engine is past fuel cut If I am correct.

Research the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a summary of which is present on the SEMA site: http://www.enjoythedrive.com/c...=8034
The warranty question comes up quite often. The law is that Acura must cover warranty work on the vehicle unless the modification causes the problem. Since Honda engines only die if you use nitrous, boost or over-rev them, then you should be fairly safe. Much depends on the dealer - some try to scare their customers by implying that their warranty will be void if the customer modifies anything. Our local Acura dealer (South Bay Acura) sends cars to us to get re-flashed from new, so at least some dealers are comfortable with Hondata modifying ECUs.
The engine over-rev error is only generated if the engine speed exceeds 9000 rpm. Since all our ECU rev limits are below 9000 rpm, the error will only be generated if you mis-shift.
