need help finding out whatz wrong with my car
Ok here is the deal car runs fine if i dont get on it hard until about 4500rpms which is what i have my v-tech controller set to kick in at.I dont know for sure if its not gettting enough spark or enough fuel.but its really hesitates to and sputters when you floor it at 4500rpms.Any suggestions as to what i should look for or need to check on to make this problem go away.oh and no i'm not trowing any codes already tried resting ecu and that didnt help.

WTF? what u said doesn't make any sense man.. u said it runs good unless u floor it after 4500, then u say when u floor it at 4500 it still sputters? so which is it? if its falling on its face all the time then something is wrong.. u need to do some basic diagnoising first.. like u said check for fuel spark.. sound to me like u don't have ur "v-tech" controller hooked up right.. beside u should be running a VTEC controller anyway.. thats proably ur problem to begin with

It could be your VTEC kicking in at 4500 rpm is just to low. The lowest point I have Known for VTEC has been 4800rpm and up. It can also be you may not have enough oil pressure therfore no VTEC and sputter. Last thing I can think of is may your VTEC silenoid is going bad. Good Luck

ok for those Q's on motor setup and everything it is 90civic hf d15b1, with dpfi--mpfis swap z6 head, pm6 ecu all from a 90 rex si.and for anyone that i may have confused let me clear it up. the deal is when i put it to the floor it takes off and runs fine up until about 4500-5000 which is when vtec is supposed to kick in. i dont think that 4500 is to low since it redlines at like 7000.

If it's a z6 motor, then it doesn't have vtec. The D16Y8 motor's were vtec, but those were in 92 and up EX's. Why do you have a vtec controller if you don't have vtec?? If I'm mistaken about the motor or you just typed down the wrong information and you do have vtec, check the wiring on the vtec controller. Solder all connections. DO NOT use butt connectors. If that's fine then check how much oil you have. VTEC is ran off of oil pressure and if you don't have enough oil to engage VTEC then it's going to fall flat on it's face. Happened to me once.

Wrongo, The Z6 was a VTEC motor from 92-95 and the Y8 was a VTEC motor from 96-00. I think your problem is that your ECU is not from a VTEC motor and therefor will not "turn on" VTEC. Even if you had an RPM activated VTEC switch your ECU wouldn't have the correct amount of fuel to run efficiently in VTEC.
Do this...buy a P28 ecu and wire it up to the VTEC solenoid...and convert to OBD1...trust me you wont regret it. Hope this works and you understand what i'm talking about.

follow up.
Ok i feel really stupid after today been trying to figure out why the *&()&*(^ my car wasnt running right so i finally said f*** this and called up my buddy that did all the work on it.took it to his shop he drove 3 blocks away turned around came back and told me to change the plug wires and the problem would go away.I thought he was crazy at first but i had to remind myself he is the expert not me.Anyways i did this, and sure enough i was back on the road with vtec and all.

since everyone is correcting people it isnt a motor, motors are electric; engines are internal combustion so a z6 nor y8 would be a motor and if you ran a vtec controller or a rpm activated switch with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator you could tune it to have sufficient fuel to run vtec although overall running the ecu meant for the head you are running probably would be most efficient

You are correct, i was discussing that with a friend 3 days ago...usually motor is used for describing both, but engine is only used when describing internal combustion...but that is just how people tend to use it, not the way it should be used
.
Now i feel stupid
