2003 Honda Accord V6 - Broken rocker arm roller
The car only had 17,000 miles when the rocker arm roller broke. The heads are damaged and being repaired. The car has a 6-speed manual transmission. Even though they are covering the repairs, the Honda reps are trying to say that the head damage was caused by driver error - someone downshift to a low gear at a high rate of speed (which didn't happen). Anyone ever hear of anything like this?
If honda can prove it that it was driver error then you will pay for it...however, I would call honda on their bluff and ask them to prove it.
I would say either faulty parts, high revs on a newly broken in engine, driving like a jack ***.......lots of variables.
If you missed a shift, for example downshifted from 5th to 2nd instead of to 4th, then that almost always bends multiple valves. I guess it could break a rocker arm as well, but I've never heard of that happening.
no manufacturer has a 100% quality rate. I'd guess that you just got unlucky.

Metal flying around in your head is usually
not a good thing, if the rocker arm broke and had some pieces fly off I would say damage would be guaranteed.

Overrevving like everyone said, but if honda is covering it probably defect just trying to cover their ***. The ecu should have stored some of the last data before the rocker arm broke, speed, rpms etc. I would just be happy their covering it and leave it at that less fuss and their fixing it.
