I am having a problem with my ITR
it has just 7000 miles on it
purchased may 9 2001
I have the common bolt ons
DC Headers, exhaust, intake
the only things you can say that are a little invovled is
B & M fuel pressure reg
STR fuel rail
msd ingnition
The car is lowered sittin on 18 inch wheels
The problem i am having seems to be with the ECU
when i start my car every morning i get no reading on the speedometer- no milage move, no nothing -
intermedaitly at lights the speedo goes to 100 -120 -140 and the odometer starts rollin away. if i roll foward a little or hit the gas it seems to go away but that might be my imagination.
after coming back down from its "whacked out" state the speedo still sits at zero while the car is moving.....this doesnt help the vtec at all considering the car is not seeing that it is moving over 20mph.
After a while it seems it will just start working but never for long periods of time and it seems to only work after driving for a while.and once the car is shut off for a while it will stop working again.
Nothin is done to the car electrically besides the inigntion, alram and a air/fuel guage.
Also i have intermitted problems with fuel cut off.....when speedo is not working and my alternator does not want to pump out juice to charge my battery every once in a while..i can see this by my trustee multimeter.
CAn all these be problems be a result of a bad ecu
can this be cover under warrenty even with all the stuff on my car
please help me it will be greatly appericated. I am getting the typical run around with the local dealers. I refuse to pay them for a new ecu when i know i havent hampered with it in any way plus if i am gonna have to shell out for a new ecu it sure aint gonna be a stock one.

did you mess around with the wires?

 

Ive had the same exact problems in my R. It ended up being the fuse to the speed sensor/altenator.

Check the fuse first.

My problem was that a wire from the sensor located on the CAT was touching the shift linkage which caused the fuse to blow out.

So check all your wires also you might have a short somewhere.

Guy go to the dealership... if THEY don't help contact Honda/Acura of America... if they cannot prove that YOUR MODS are causing the problems they HAVE TO DO THE WORK. It is a law that you cannot void warranty unless proven the mods caused the problem.

 

Tell them to check the fuse inline from the speed sensor, as mentioned above. Apparently, it's not on some wiring diagrams for ITRs, they had a bear of a time figuring out why a Pitt guy was having the same problem. 80% chance that's the reason.

 

umm..probably the 18 inch wheel cause the problem...

i HAVE YET TO DRIVE THE CAR YET PARTLY BCAUSE ITS 2 AM AND STARTING THE CAR UP IN THE GARAGE AND LEAVING IS A LOUD TO DO WITH THE FAMILY SLEEPING AND NO CAT AND RESONATORS. SO ANYWAYS THIS WILL PROBBALY BE MY SOLUTION WHEN I DRIVE IT IN THE MORNING. i APPERICATE THE HELP PHyT-R. IF IT KEEPS BLOWNING I MIGHT BE ASKING YOU JUST EXACTLY WHERE THAT WIRE PROBLEM YOU WHERE HAVING ACCURED

Now that you fixed the problem, loose the 18s and the clear tails....of course, you're entitled to have them, and opinions are like ********, and i'm like an opinion, but wheels that large decrease pretty much every performance aspect of your car; acceleration, braking, handling....as for the clears/altezzas (not sure what a euro tail is, but i fear it ), the R stands out more than enough, no sense putting cheap parts on it just to stand out more. Be proud of what you have, and work on the few parts that need or can be improved...the lights work just fine. And take the playstation out of the car and put it in the house, then take the R to a track and find out why grand turismo 3 is only a game.

 

Hmm.......I think I saw this guy on Nrothern Blvd Queens/LI once. It's lowere to the floor (wonder how it survives the pot holes) and really big *** rims...

Man.....you gotta get over the rice age. (I did) It's your car, but if you add unneccesary "mods" that's functionless to your car is really sad.

A riced ITR is good as a stolen R.

I whole heartedly agree. 18 inch wheels on an R is a crime. Euro tailights on an R should be an executable offense. Please stop ricing up Rs.

besides i love the JDM front and alll but dont you think its getting a little to played out-- i've seen it on about every integra LS,GS, GSR, Type R
I think its sick looking but i'd like to stand out a little
I go to shows and all i see is another JDM front
The thing i like know is that they are starting to offer different front bumpers for the JDM look thats cool to change it up a bit
Anyways what do you guys think about the S15 Silvia headlights or the S14 front end conversion i think that will go nicely with the R33 tails

Also i think this forum is great and I joined just 3 days ago and i've been help with a few problems with my car and learned alot about turboing my car but i just dont think this is the place to be putting down what other people are doin to there cars

Hey NeXtLeVeL... Just wanted to give ya a few tips here. This ITR board isn't one of the typical Honda forums. People get flamed in here for being even a bit rice. It's definately one of the more technical forums, and the people posting msgs usually aren't too forgiving towards ignorant rice boys. It's an EXCELLENT place to exchange information and ideas, but if someone is looking for clear tails or which body kit to get, this is NOT the place to post!

I'm not targeting you or anyone here, but 18 inch wheels on an ITR to most ppl on this forum is not right. Certainly it's your choice, but just in case, some around here get agitated, don't take it personally.

We're pretty hardcore R owners that are bitchy, cocky and prejudice against rice, but no amount of convincing will change us. Still, I'd like to welcome you to the board and hope you don't get too offended...

 

I agree with you on this one the JDM c-west front is sick. As for the tail lights, that is your own decision but think about it before you tear into your R's ***.

There are 4 Type-Rs made in the North America:

1, Type-Racing (95% of us here, mostly converted from 2 and 3 to begin with)
2. Type-Rare (4 % here, just like the feeling of uniqueness)
3. Hype-R (.9% here, brought it for the name, still don't know what the heck it is)
4. Type-Rice (.1%. which means you, I don't recall any other rice boy in this board)

Most of the ppl on this forum are into serious racing, be it AutoX/Road/Drag, although the true application of ITR is road racing. We are all trying our best to release the fullest potential of our car.....ITR is a car made with a unique purpose unparalleled to other cars. All other cars (even Porche, M3s, Ferraries...etc) are made with a purpose of inducing sales, market strategies and self-image.

ITR have no luxury, no profit to Honda, does not help sales of Integras and other Acura/Honda models. And unlike BMWs or Porche or Ferraries, they don't give any image of higher social class. Worst of all, we ITR drivers were often accused of being immature boy-racers from owners of higher $$$ performance cars. While those cars will never see the redline their engineers were intented for.

You probably liked the ITR because of all the Hype and wanna stand out among your friends...etc. Mostly everyone is like this, very few knew the glories of R when they buy them. However, most of them had already converted to hardcore racing, so please don't take offense here, everyone is just being trueful to their heart and wish to convince you to get on the right track. Trust me, ITR is 1000 times more than just a show car. I know, because I am once a riceboy too, but didn't last long after being to this board, my euros are off within 2 weeks through my own hands.

18 inch rims robs away ITR's of hanlding ability. It's like buying a twin-turbo Supra and rib out the turbo and put in Playstations. Not to mention that it gives a race car a ghetto bling bling look and you will have a hard time taking favors from potholes of NYC. (l live here also). And you will have horrible acceleration no matter what mods you put on.
Anyway, visit the riceboy page and see why car ethuasiests hate ricers...and we wouldn't care as much if you drive other cars. But you are driving ITR, an ethuasiest's car build from the factory.
