Has anyone squeezed a 205/55 tire onto a 5.5 inch wide rim
Real tight squeeze but I hear it just might work.
My stock wheels are 15x5.5 and stock tire 195/60-15. I'd love to get a 205/55-15 onto there. Has anyone actually accomplished this?
Thanks for guidance.
(Can't afford Kosei 15" K1s anytime soon!)

Yeah, you can probably do this, but you might want to check with TireRack or the tire manufacturer just to be safe. It will depend somewhat on the tire brand, as some brands run wider/narrower.
I've fit 205/14 Kumho V700's on a 14x5.5 rim. A bit tight, but certainly doable.

We run 205/60-13 R1s and A008s on the 13x5.5 stock steelies, but not on the street. It would really depend on the tire's true section width and sidewall characteristics as to what the effects would be.
Heh, Mark Chiles' SE-R (7th at Topeka in ES) had 225 50/14 Hoosiers on his stock 14x 5.5 rims... Yowch... It almost looked cartoonish... I would hate to be his tire installer...

Thanks for the replies. These would be my daily driving wheels/tires so I don't think I'd want a smaller than stock radius 195/50 or even 55 series on there?
Heh I'll check with Bridgestone or Tirerack if a 205/55 S03 will work...

I've put 205/50/15s on a 15x5.5 It was a tight squeeze, but no problems after getting them on.. they were stiff-sidewall track tires though. I've done it with A032Rs and V700s.
WHOO HOO S-03 approved rim width 205/55ZR15 88W (6.5) 5.5-7.5
Coming up on winter, I think I'll get me some S-03s.

Yea, a buddy of mine put 205/50/15 on his stock accord wheels, bulged out a bit, but did fit ok without any wear issues...
Oh, a 205/50-15? I was thinking 205/55-15 would be a better match to stock radius. I dunno, I don't have my handy dandy radius calculator.
Morgan, Tirerack. I've gotten 24 tires from them so far. Radial Tire in Silver Spring for mounting/balancing. Actually I don't think I'll get these tires until spring. It's just been a nagging question I've had for a long time.

What about Rob Carpentar's '85 ES CRX Si with 5in wide wheels and 225 Hoosiers! Those things were ballooning off the rims

205/55/15 will work just fine, that is the standard upsizing of tires. I've been autoxing and daily driving on those size tires for 2.5yrs now.
