tighten your throttle cable!! makes a big difference
last night i was working on my winter car (a 1988 toyota camry le) and noticed that the throttle cable was really loose. I could tell from inside the car that the gas pedal had alot of play in it and I tightened the cable (mine goes to the cruise control then to the throttle body) and now the transition from brake to gas is much smoother due to the pedal engaging sooner and the fact that I drive automaics with one foot. I'm sure that taking the granny slack out of and car will help inmrove its feel and mabe its performance. Just don't over do it cause' it might increase the idle a bit.
Ummm...thanks for the heads up.
Honestly though, this is part of basic mainteneace just like retightening the E-Brake when it's getting loose.

I thought my pedal needed lubrication because the response just wasn't there. It took my cousin a couple seconds to realize what the problem was and he fixed it. The throttle cable was ready to fall off!

An amusing statement since many cars now utilize "drive-by-wire" throttle wherein the throttle is electronically signaled and there is no cable to speak of. Perfect modulation and much improved response

And one more electrical box to go bad on an already technilogically advanced vehicle. I won't own one with all of that stuff on it that I have to pay someone to fix.
