Default y1, s1, lsd, cable tranny questions!

ok, right now i've got a s1 tranny. i NEED a LSD before i go racing this year and want the cheap way out. (i.e. OEM LSD)

i have a friend who's got a y1 lsd tranny sitting around he said he would sell/trade. how much is one worth? and how much is my tranny worth?

also, he said that it's got a grind in 3rd and possibly 5th... something about parts not being available for it in the US?

who's got some good info on this?

thanks,
Hunter

LSD cable trannies go for like $400.00 and up. if its JDM tranny the internals are different and are not interchangable with USDM trannies

Why do you NEED an LSD? I know guys running low 13's on a stock S1.

BTW, stock LSD's are quite weak. Best bet is to save up and buy a quaiffe (sp?)

I put the Quaife in my JDM S1 tranny and I love it. It was not bad to install either. I understand the money thing though.

If you're stuck getting a stock lsd tranny, get a YS1 because you can get us parts for it (GSR). Incidentally, someone here on HT sells syncros for Y1 cable tranny...forgot his name but run a search, I'm sure you'll find him...or post a wanted thread on the classifieds. I've had my YS1 tranny w/ LSD for over a year now (over 18,000 miles) and still no grinding...weekend autocrosser and daily driver.

I bought my JDM Y1 LSD for $650. I would rather have a quafie unit in it though.

I could be wrong, as well. But I've heard that ALL YS1's have the same internals. JDM or USDM. That's why everyone says the YS1 is the "best" cable tranny. Because you CAN get parts for it.

Yeah I've been searching...must have missed it...only thing is it needs to be an S1(I think that's right) or whatever goes with the B16A, I do HPDE and the LS tranny just won't cut it I think...

True. JDM_DOHC_SIR - make sure you email him; otherwise, you probably won't get a response:

Unfortunately, the ring gear & diff. are one piece, as it pertains to the Y1 tranny from what I understand.

The final drive in the ITR tranny is the same as the JDM S1/J1, unless you get the 98+ newer spec ITR tranny. It also has to be JDM to get factory 4.7 Final Drive. I think all U.S. ITR trannys no matter what year are 4.4 Final Drive.

Someone correct me if Im wrong.

since this is a tranny thread..got a ?....is there seals that goes between the axles and the tranny?you know where it mates together...like o-rings or somewhat like it ..im like leakin fluid around there..like axles part is oily and the rear crossmember is oily as well like its been splashing and ****..if so what usdm tranny seals/o-rings will work on a y1 lsd tranny
