Default Coilover Noise.

Ok i just put maxspeed coilovers on my 95 accord. I still have stock struts and shocks. The problem i am having is that on the front passager side i keep hearing this clunk. It only really happens when i go over bumps other than that i dont really hear it. The back passager one did for a short time after i put them on but then stopped. Can anybody help me on this?

Its probably your strut making the noise due to compressed status....oems will last for a bit but you will have to get better shocks/struts.

The coilovers were 50 dollars from a friend. The Max speed coilovers retail for 250. I installed them myself so hard to say what it would cost for the labor to install them. Took me about 5 hours to install. Main reason it took so long is i ran into problems.

it does the same thing on my accord i have maxspeed and it does it when i go over bumps it might be the strut but i doubt it.. to me it seems as if the coilover is almost jumoing around in a way and just makes a loud noise but all cars are diffrent and i have mine all the way down and it happens in the rear

Yeah i have been told it is just moving around and as long as my car doesnt jerk hard to either side i will be fine. Anyway it is just reallly really annoying so i just turn up the radio.

Maxspeed are cheap coilovers man.. dont expect a quality ride nor a quality sound from them. It sucks you have to worry about them "clunking" around. It could be because theres alot of play between the spring and the struts.. I couldn't tell ya because every car I have driven I put in springs w/ struts-shocks at the same time (its more labor effective that way).

The problem is being caused by not having the coils of the spring wrapped where it sits on the strut. There is a metal to metal contact that will bang around when you go over a bump. The factory springs have a softer coating on them so that this does not happen. I am sure this is the problem because I have had it on my 2000 Accord coupe after the springs were changed. I simply pulled them apart and wrapped the bottom coil with electrical tape and no more noise. Hope this helps
