Pinging Noise ran low on oil (Please HelP)
I had an oil leak. Loss alot of oil. I ran the car pretty hard that night. I was on the freeway and ran my homie, then all of a sudden the check engine light came on. Drove home checked the oil it was hella low. Added oil, then the next day saw a small puddle of oil. Fixed the oil leak, took off the oil pan and got a new gasket. Also check my crankshft while I was under there and didn't see any scratches or anything weird. Just making a low pinging noise. Know it is hard to tell you about the noise, but please help. Could it be my piston? What could it be or how can I get rid of this.
Low pinging meaning like a low knock knock knock that increases as your RPM's increase? If so, you spun a bearing. Did you notice any shavings in your oil pan?
That knock knock knock, it goes up as RPM increase but not as bad as idle. Oil pan was so dirty that I proably wouldn't have notice. If I spun a bearing is that pretty much a rebuild.
If you can drop the pan again you should be able to disconnect the rods from the crank then make a close inspection of the rod bearings. DO NOT PULL THE PISTON WITH OUT THE HEAD OFF OR EVEN ATTEMPT IT. You may be able to get a way with just replacing the bearings. I make this sound simple but it can be a bitch. Still cheaper then paying somebody. then plastigage the bearings before installing the new ones that should help with any scarring that took place. There you go a poor mans low end job. this may buy you some time before having to tear in to it for an actually full rebuild.
