Oil filters all the same?
I go to a auto store nearby, when i get an oil filter for my civic and accord,
the oil filter number is L14459
when i get one for my integra, oil filter number is PL14459
but then i talked to a guy at acura dealership, and he told me there is only one
size that fits all hondas/acuras. part #15400-PLM-A02
whats the deal here?
are the oil filters from the dealership universal for all hondas/acuras???
if this is so, why do they have differnet part numbers when i go to the
regular auto stores?

I don't think that is true...the part number for my 98 LS was different than for a 95 GS-R.
I'm not sure though..I never compared.

this is pretty much correct. just the newer models use a smaller filter

i use part # 15400-PCX-004 to get the toyo roki oem oil filter. this oil filter is made for the S2000 but also fits other hondas as well. its larger than the PLM oil filter and its the same size as the discontinued oem oil filters.
and you will never find an oil filter matching this part # (15400-PLM-A02) at any regular auto parts store.

i've noticed that there is even a difference in filters from Honda.
On my trips to the parts department, i've always bought genuine honda filters but have received ones made in Japan and some that are made in Canada.
The JDM ones seem to feel heavier, but i'm sure the differences don't end there.

This is a good writetup and comparison of several brands of filters. I never used Fram anyway and this comparison only added to that.
BTW, I ordered a Nippon oil filter for my teg because it was cheap ($2.50 or something like that), On the box and the filter they have a suspiciously honda-like "OEM number" of 15400-POH-305. Coincidence or does Honda have several suppliers maybe? It's painted a dark blue.

I'm not exactly sure which dealership you spoke with. But that's far from the truth. It's true, most 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines uses the PLM-A02, but other engines require different oil filters. For your particular question it is true. But for other instances, like a 95 Legend, they use a larger filter: PL2-315.

I use the same exact OEM filter on my 98 GSR, my parents 98 Civic LX, and the 01 Accord LX. The guy at Honda told me that all Honda's use the same oil filter as well. He showed me on the shelf where all the filters were. There were quite a few, but all were the same kind. This was a while back so I must ask if these same oil filters will work on a 03 Civic LX (D17)? Going to change the oil in my girls ride tommorrow. Thanks!
