Hatch won't stay open!!!
It has been quite cold for the past few weeks (-35 to -40
) up here. I have noticed my hatch wouldn't keep its opened-position... quite annoying when you are trying to grab things from the trunk as the hatch keeps closing on you.
Anyone has the similar problems? Any good suggestion (other than getting a beater
)?
P.S. hatch works just fine when the temperature goes back to -15 to -20...

The hatch struts are going out... what else could it be???
The problem always shows up in cold weather first. They'll continue to get worse though.

or CF hatch.
but the weird thing is my friend's 03 RSX-S also have the same problem. How long does those struts last? Mine is a 01, would that be covered under warranty (probably not...

right, hatch struts that can't hold open the hatch in the cold will need to be replaced very soon - it will get worse.
yes, the struts are covered by the warranty. i had mine replaced at around 40k miles.

Ok, I think my hatch struts needs to be and my warranty just expired (damn it!
)
anyhow, I was searching on http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/ and I couldn't locate the part # as well as the price, I got the quote from dealership and the price for the struts is
any other good place to get the stock parts or any good alternative to replace the struts?

i beleive the struts for the R are the same as the LS/GSR... call the dealer back and see if the part #s match. dont use acura autmotive parts to match the part #s, its all screwed up on that website. or just goto a junkyard

There are different part numbers depending on whether you have a spoiler or not.
I bought "dealer takeoff" struts from eBay, taken from a car without a spoiler. On my car with spoiler, they have a hard time keeping the hatch up during colder weather. Not much of an improvement compared to my old worn-out struts.
I think the R hatch struts might be stronger than the GSR struts due to the larger spoiler. If you can find a good set at a junkyard, that would be your best bet.

if your car is not too far out of warranty, with some coaxing, you can get then to still warranty it. I used to work at a honda/acura dealership in parts. It all depends on how far out of warranty.
