SO now I have a y8 with a 1st gen B16 throttle body works great But i'm using a y8 throttle body gasket though. NOW the problem is I drive and whatever its okay but it idles like crazy and its annoying me and please if anybody out there can help please help it idles from 900 to 1600 unstoppable please help

spray some carb cleaner on the throttle body when the car is running......does the idle bog??? If so vacume leak (possilbe gasket). If that is cool and there is no leak, inside the throttle body there is a spring loaded valve thing that regulates how much coolent is passed. If that is not screwed down all the way it will make the idle jump like crazy.......its really annoying. Just take off the intake and put your finger in the tb to feel for the valve thing (dont know the name sorry). Push it down and see if that calms the idle down.

I had a similar problem on my bros car (also d16z6) we put a skunk 2 manifold with the t/b opening ported. when everything was put together the car idled up and down like u mentioned. I also thought it was the the gaskets were leaking so we changed both intake manifold gasket and t/b gasket (since we tried to use the old ones). And to no avail same problem. So what i found out is that the fiv (fast idle valve) which is the sensor below the t/b that has a coolant line going into it was receiving to much air and the ecu was trying to fix it so that y it idled funny. the cause was the opening on the intake manifold was to big for the t/b gasket to seal. To check for this problem (assuming that a 1 gen b16a t/b has a fiv) look at the inside of the t/b u should see two holes the bottom one is for the fiv take ur thumb and plug it up with the car running if ur car returns to a normal idle then u have the same problem, the remedy is to buy some gasket material and modify it and make a new gasket so that will make it so the fiv doesnt leak so much air. Sorry if this is confusing I wish i had some pics to show you. Hope that helps!
