My wheel after hitting a curb in the snow :(

This happend about 2 months ago when I was going into the school parking lot that was basically an ice rink and the car started to slide and slid directly into a curb sideways. Cost $2300 to fix. Still paying that off really sucks.
I coulda gotten a used wheel for 100 with a tire but my mom went ahead and didnt ask me before she told them to get a new wheel and tire. They had to replace the rear knuckle, upper control arm, trailing arm, nut spindle, and the bearing assembly.

Stock Michelins and irresponsible driving. You don't smash a curb bad enough to do suspension damage going 5mph

hehe, i slid into a curb going about the same speed entering a chevron and black ice allover the drive. i was going faster then i should have been but i needed enough momentum to get over the snow bank that the plow had left for me.
and all i did was bend a wheel and push my a-arms back a little. 300 bucks for a new wheel and a chassis straightening.
the tires won't help at all, unless you had chains or good studs on ice. also, your velocity isn't exactly equal to 5mph because there is no friction on ice. you're moving a bit faster. and you are hurtling a 3k lb object at a piece of concrete, of course something will give. its not irresponsible driving, its more of "i've never been in this situation and i'm not sure what to do" driving.
does insurance cover this type of accident?

Honestly those tires do suck. But I wasnt driving like a comlete dummy just stared to slide and the parking like is at a slope so it gained some momentum. Hit hit sideways it was going sideways at about 5 or 7mph. At the time of the accident we were switching companys so we couldnt claim it.
