My homemade trunk bar.
I made it from steel i had at work. I made it on a brideport with eztrak controls (CNC). I made it in 3 pieces. The 2 end pieces and then the steel tube which if i recall is .042 in thickness. I then took it to a welder and had them weld it in a fixture i made so it would be the right length and aligned properly.
I then polished it but didnt like it so i sandblasted it, primed it, and then coated it about 5 times (wetsanding in between) with black paint with blue flakes in it. then polished it with some car polish.

To answer a few questions.
You can still access the spare tire. you just have to put the rear seats down and pull the board out that way..
I put the bar there instead of the ITR spot because where it is now is directly connected to both sides of the frame.
My handling seems much better, but who knows. I like it.

It ties the chassis together in the back, similar to a front upper strut bar. It probably isn't much of a noticeable difference, but it definitely stiffens up the rear end. Less flex=less body roll=better handling.
Have you ever considered making a front or rear upper strut bar? It could definitely be worth your while.

i'm kinda lost on this one too, i understand that chassis flex isn't desirable, but how much flex do you expect all the way in the back of the car like that? not flaming or anything, just a question.
The bar looks very professionally done.
Just cut off a few inches from your spare tire cover and you can access it a lot easier.
What size bolt did you use to bolt it down to the frame?
