Default EP3 JDM CTR Cluster "Outside C°" (help needed)

I have the JDM CTR cluster for the EP3, in the Tripometer / Odometer area, if you press the "tripometer" button you will cycle through (1) Odometer (2) Trip A (3) Trip B (4) Outside C°.

Now this is the interesting part, Outside temperature? I have not heard of this anywhere. Now for my plan. Make the outside temp read my oil temp. . What I am in need of is any info that anyone can find on this "Outside" temperature mode, and what is needed to hook up a thermostat to the right place to get the cluster to display a temperature.

I have the ITR ECU if that will help any.

Thanks.

you'll proabably need the thermostat from a oil temp guage and tap it in to the guage cluster. You'll need to know where to tap it in .

Damn that would be sweet, I bet the DC5 JDM clusters have that also. I would try and source a wiring diagram from the temperature reading sensor. I know from a
MDX or such it is an ambient air temperature sensor mounted behind the bumper.

Post some pics if you figure it out.

That's a sweet idea. I too have this cluster for my car. My 03 CRV has the outside temp on the cluster as a 2nd LCD. Does the Euro CTR have this ? I have the manual on CD at home. I will check tonight to see if I have the wire diagram.

OK I have the wire schematic and the test info for the sensor. My internet was acting up at home last night so I could not upload them here. I’ll do it tonight. It works on resistance and the manual show a scale going up to 104 degrees.

1.You would have to use a multiple of 2 or 3 as oil temp can go up to 250 ?
2.We would need to find a sensor that had 2 or 3 times the resistance and scaled the same as the Honda one did.

Actually no the DC5R cluster doesn't have a temperature reading. Just total km. Trip A and Trip B.

Adam, you have a few issues with the CTR cluster.

1) My speedometer seams to be off by 10 km/h so it says 110 km/h and im actually going 100.

2) The dash accessory lights, ie A/C, cruise, etc do not light up anymore. Only the cluster is lit. The indicators in the buttons do still work, just the night illumination is gone. This is not a problem for me, as I am now likeing the darkness while driving at night.

JMI I like the diagrams and infor you have found. I wonder what we can try with the sensor, maybe instead of oil temp, we cound monitor air intake temp, also where it would be hooked into on the EP3 harness. Any ideas?

P.S I have the service manual for the UK EP3-Type R. We should be able to get the rest of your cluster working. Mine is the JDM one. It's not in the car yet.
