Potential Fuel Issue-94 Accord
94 Accord LX, and when I fill up the tank the needle doesnt go all they way to the full line or past. Just short like between 3/4 anf full line. Gas mileage isnt what it should be either, and i am wondering if this might be the fuel filter or o2 sensor. I am going to change the o2 sensor anyway just for maintenance. any feedback is appreciated.
O2 sensors aren't cheap, so I would test it before you replace it. as far as poor performance, just pour a bottle of Redline SI-1 (Techron will do too, but SI-1 is better) into a tank of super. that should take care of any filth in the system. How many gallons exactly are you able to put in? What was your exact mileage and what is it it now?
Well you have a 17 gallon tank, I would run that thing until the light comes on and then fill er up, I believe its a 3 gallon reserve (don't quote me), but you should get about 14-16 gallons, you won't hit 17 unless you run it dry. You should be getting around 23-29 mpg, what are you getting now? Also if you needle doesn't move all the way to the F, have you ever touched your guages? If not possibly sender unit?
not having any performance issues(ie lack of power or anything), just curious why the needle isnt all the way to full....i havent messed with any guages. during this winter so far I only got like 250 miles this past tank, excluding the 2gal or so left when i filled it up.
yea....thats def not normal.....i get abput 300 in and fill it up w/ 3 gallons left....u also might wanna check to see if ur cat is clogged.....since theres no O2 sensor down there, u cant otherwise tell if its all fuct down there
This is a common problem with the 5th gens. Their gas guage sending unit goes on the fritz and it shows an incorrect reading on the dash. You will need to test the sensor to see if it needs replacing. It is located right underneath the trunk floor. You will see a metal circle cover with an electrical wire going to it. This is your sensor. Remove it and test it.

yes how exactly can you test this sensor, and what sensor is this? this being OBDI the only o2 sensor is up by the headers correct. is this a fuel sensor sending unit right? and should i wait on replacing the o2 sensor until i check this other sensor? thanks

he is right,
this is a known problem on the 5th gen accords.
i have taken my sending unit out and cleaned it. it didnt help. but feel free to try it.
as fopr the shitty gas mileage, are you assuming its empty when the guage tells you it is? if so you probaly have a few more gallons before its actually empty.
try filling up, reset the odometer, and drive until the gas light comes on.
then go fill up again. take the miles on the odometer and divide them by the gallons amount you fill up with.
this will give you a more accurate mpg.
as a reference,
when i fill up, the guage only goes 3/4 of the way up (like yours)
at about 250 miles the guages says empty (like yours) but i know i have more gas then the guage says
but i can get at least 300 miles on a tank, ive even got 360ish without the light coming on.
hope this helps

i have never let the empty light come on, but i suppose i'll try this time and see what kind of mileage i get. have you ever changed your o2 sensor? or did you just try to clean the fuel sending unit sensor?
