please help, car won't start and wife is mad at me!
Hey guys, I need your help. I have a 94 civic v-tec. The car was running just fine not problem except me o2 sensor. So I pulled the car in to replace the o2 sensor with a bosh universal one and I replace the cap and rotor. Now the car will not star. There is no spark. I put the orignal cap and rotor back on still won't start. I checked to codes, reset the computer, nothing. Thre is no check engine light either. could the o2 sensor stop the car from running? what can I do or check to see why I am not geting any spark. whould having my firing order wrong stp the car from starting. thatnks guys
Did u bend the little spring thing just under the cap? Take a close look at it, its inside the tower part of the dist when it connects to the cap.
clm- the car cranks strong, but just won't turn over, she wants too, but it is not getting spark or firing. what else can I check.
97civicdx- Yes I did bend the spring under the cap. I streched it out a tiny bit to make better contact with the tip inside of the rotor. I belive it is supposed to make contact. I could be wrong. what other good advice do you guys have, you guys are awesome.

so it is cranking over but just won't light up...? hmmmm........ last time i had this problem a ground wire had come undone..... i would say make sure the ecu is plugged in, but it sounds like you didn't even come close to that...... did you make sure your rotor is properly aligned with the rest of your timing?
take the dist. cap back and get it exchanged it should be free.
also check to make sure you have the wires lined up propperly.
and NO O2 sensor won't stop your car from starting, its something to do with the wires, or the dist. cap.

dude check the ground on the starter my ecu wouldnt turn on and that was my problem it tried to crank but just wasnt firing i did that and bam she cranked right up
team4r- I never messed with the ecu, I checked and double checked all connectors. The rotor is slotted, it will only go on and off one way.
I replaced the new cap with my orignal and no spark.
zlua- I did unplug my wires, I think i connectd them right on the cap, but I do not have a example or diagrame to verify it. does anyone have an example of the correct way the wires should be on the cap? you guys are awesome thanks for you help!

let see... you look at your cap where the plugs plug in facing you and it had 3 screws the screw by itself at the round part of the cap the one on the left is number 1 the one on the right is 2 the top right is 4 and top left is 3...

could also be your ignitor or coil.... this happened to me just putting a new distributor cap on... my coil was bad, got a new one worked, then the ignitor went bad the next day .. all is good now.... tricky i must say...
just to confirm, the plug wires look like:
3 4
1 2
i had mine crossed one time, but the motor still started..... bad idle, terrible vibration, and occasional backfiring.... but, it still started. so, that's not your problem.
i'm looking at my honda troubleshooter under "engine rotates but will not start". here's the list of possible problems starting with the most likely. hope this helps.
1. fuel tank empty
2. battery discharged.
3. battery connection loose or bad
4. leaking injectors, faulty fuel pump/system
5. fuel not reaching fuel rail
6. ignition components damp/damaged
7. faulty spark plugs
8. broken/loose/disconnected wiring in starter circuit
9. loose distributor
10. faulty ignition coil

check to make sure the plug wires are all the way on the distributor and in the right order. If those are mixed up, the car won't start.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yea recheck that.

Have you checked your fuses?
If you have a quick connection I can set up an FTP for the EG Helms manual (about 90 mb) or go the local library or parts store and get the Haynes.

well it was # 10. My coil tooka dump. But help me out here, I never touched anything on the coil. I replaced the cap and rotor, then she would'nt start. It falls it the realm of unexplained automotive grimliens. As soon as i replaced the coil she fired right up.

It says in the Honda Factory manual that it should be between something like 16-20....I just messed with this crap the other day. I replaced cap and rotor and the CYP sensor, ignitor, AND the coil went bad....replaced all but CYP and it runs almost perfect.
