Default How fast can I make a 92-95 hatch for 14000?

Well I just got back from the hospital after most likeley having my car totalled. I had a 2001 VW GTI 1.8t with all the goodies FMIC, 3'' Turbo back, bigger turbo ect....

Anyway Im almost definate that the car is totalled. A guy pushed me into a median were I blew all the tires, slide about 300+ yards on the oilpan/tranny, and ended up hitting a cemet bridge guard rail. From the guy I know that have had thier VW in wrecks like this they usually get totalled do to the fact that the car has 6 air bags, all of which deployed ad cost a ton to fix....

That along with ( just what was obvious to me at the scene before the ambulance arrived to take me to the hospital) I sheered off the oilpan, busted all the tires and destroyed the rims, crushed the front end, and the motor was twisted in the engine bay along with what was some obvious flame damage...afer I left and the car was put up on the tower my dad and the tow truck driver took a quick look just to see and both of my axles, control arms, and most of the coresponding parts were broken, smashed, crushed ect...

So I just got home fromt he ER and I just took my meds and am waiting for them to kick in and cant stand just sitting there to thing about it so I figured Id get on here and see what was up.

Anyway, was looking to get a 92-95 civic hatch for a second car (now looking like a primary) and I was wondering, if I purchased a hatch shell, for 1500 ( found one close to me yesterday actually) and I could get a swap for a decent price around here if I knew what motor would be a good base for the HP I want. How fast could I make the hatch(concidering I would already have the hatchback and a motor swap in the car, just need to know what swap) for around 11000+ alittle more of my own cash. Not to worried about the exterior so much, just suspension and some lightweight rims. I'm looking to hit about 450-500 on pump gas (93oct.). Is this possible? Who would you recommend? Ive talked to full race about their turbo kits before but I would need the motor built, and tranny strengthend as well I would think and tuning. I live in Southern Ga and would apprecaite any advise anyone could give. Thanks

sorry for your pain from the wreck. hope to recover fully from this. when you say fast, how fast are you saying. you want 400+HP are you wanting this on the street or strictly as a track car, i.e. (drag). im sure with 7grand you can make the hatch you get very quick. be aware of the phrase overkill. having that much HP on the street will be a maintanence hassle. to keep the car running at tip-top.i suggest getting a hatch, and put on gs-r suspension. and drop in a H22 motor in it. put a supercharger on it. and see how fast that is before you jump up to 400+HP. just my .02 cents at 530 in the morning

depends on if u go turbo or NA. i got about 12k into my car total, front to back, top to bottom. check my link in my sig, that basically sums it up.

Well, you could build one hell of a beast. A fully built motor for boost would run something like $7500 for everything (blockwork, headwork, build, etc.) A full race stage 3 turbo kit $4500. $1000 on Hondata and tuning, then spend the rest on good axles, suspension, etc. You could probably run 10's if you gutted the car and rode on slicks, but I don't really see the point. I'd just buy an ITR and be done with it.

Well, this car would definately be a everyday driver, and I could just crank the boost down for the street. I want boost ( miss the turbo already) , around 450whp and Id probably be a happy camper, but more is always better

Is the car going to be used primarily for drag racing? Whether it is or not, if you plan on this kind of power I'd recommend having a roll cage welded in as well as a good set of seats and proper harnesses.

Track as in Road Course? Track as in Drag strip? More info please.

I wouldn't recommend just an EBC for high boost applications, maybe a standalone engine management system with boost control that allows you to switch between two separate and fully tuned programs, one for low boost, and one for high boost.

It would be kinda hard to make a fully built 500hp motor streetable, but 300-400HP is just amazing in a EG hatch. Last weekend I was looking over one of the Full-Race cars(Henry's) and it was sick! The sound it made with the down pipe open was something new. Once u get in a 2000lbs car u will see that with 300whp u can be faster than almost everything on the road. With the money u have u can make as much power as u are willing to handle.

So what your saying is that 400-450 whp should be good enough to pick on that pesky viper that the 16 year old got for his birthday?

Henry drives the 96-00 black civic coupe, it makes 420whp and like 280wtq. And as for the Viper, search for cheesefrog and his video where he races a modded Viper that runs 10's or better and is right at his door.

I agree that 300 to 400 is all you're ever going to need on the street. If you go much farther than that it simply becomes too hard to control.

Cheese frogs civic is definately a beast. Did you guys notice in that vid that he left the parkig break ok? If you watch the rear tire during the vid the breaks heat up and actually starts to smoke........and he still hung with that viper
