I am in the process of turboing my HX the (unfortunately) ghetto...heh "DIY" way and I came across a deal too good to be true on a T3 without thinking it out. My plans for this car is to be around 160 at the wheels for both hp/tq.

Anyway to the chase. The tubo is from a 300zx (Z31) and the exhaust housing has a .63 stamped on it. Is that a bit too big for the 1.6L Dseries?? I have been searching for about 2 hours and I havent came up with much of an answer. Any help would be appreciated.

 

It's not too big for a D Series, but is probably too big for your kind of power goals. You might want to get something smaller and quicker spooling if you're only looking for 160whp.

 

Yeah I dont plan to make this a dyno queen or track monster. Just some added "pep". I would prefer smaller numbers and a quicker spool time over top end/high hp goals. My goals are very conservative. I would be happy with more, but I would be content with 160 or so. My RB20 was puttign down liek 170hp and around 150ish tq and it was plenty fast for me. especially when full boost hit at under 4K with a 7.8K redline

 

id go with a t25 or 14b for your goals.....youll be happy.

Not only do we have honest goals in this post, but at the same time, two GREAT reccomendations on turbochargest to meet them. It seems honda-tech is getting back to it's former glory of great information. It must be the new look

The .60 would be a great turbo, but It is capable of like 350hp. You don't want it (especially with the .63 housing) on a stock d16. The .48 is a GREAT match for a d-series. I want to make a vid and show what my tach looks like w/ that turbo. About 4k rpms, full boost kicks in (11lbs) and you lose traction. Only 3/5th's of my gearbox still has a purpose... (time for some wheels)...

 

Backing up with Johnyquest said, it's a great turbo but maybe just a tad too large for your case. You will easily be able to hit 160 at the wheels, although it will lag like hell. If you really want to keep this turbo then say so and we'll go from there.

If you got such a great deal why not try to resell it and go for something smaller.

 

Thnkas for the recommendations....I had my flame suit on...LOL. Yeah I think I am going to try to sell it or trade it. I already know what my my goals feel like and I think it would be even quicker in a car that is 500lbs lighter than my 240.

I ran a saab t3 (.48 hot and .42 cold) on my d15 and loved it. IMO it is a perfect match for the d series also.

 

Like the rest of the guys said, for you hp goals .63 exhaust a/r is really just too big.

Remember that its the exhaust a/r that determines, for the most part, lag. The bigger the exhaust a/r the more lag. I say trade her in! Good luck!
