Default ATTN: 6th gen Civic autocrossers

What size tire are you all running? Im wondering if I can run a 225 w/o rubbing. I know it will be close.

i have yet to autocross, but i use 205 azenis on the track (rumored to be practically as wide as some 215's) and the only rub i get is at full lock. i don't exactly ride my car 'slammed,' though.

i would question the usefulness of a tire that size on a rim smaller than 6.5 inches wide.

225's will definitely need some fender massaging along with some wheels spacers, I've seen it done but just don't expect to just throw them on. It will also depend on how low and stiff your suspension is. My 205's slightly rub/polish the rear trailing arm with 15x7, 42mm offset.

I run 13 x 9" RS wheels with 5" backspacing and 225/45/13 Hoosiers. Yes they stick out past the fenders a little bit, but they *never* rub due to their smaller diameter, and the stiff suspension. BTW, my car is also dropped about 1.75" lower than stock height.

edit: this is on a 98' Civic hatch (@ 7 psi )

fsp31: that is exactly what I am wanting to run. Do you have a problem with gearing since you downsized to a 13?

Also how did you get them to fit up front? When I tried to put a set of 13's on the iner part of the wheels rubs on the brake bleeder and part of the caliper. I tried to shave it down some but I couldnt. Thanks ahead of time!

what size caliper/rotors come on the 6th gen cars?

FWIW, I run 13x9's on my EG Si w/ no clearance problems and really like the gearing advantage. Down side is that there is more shifting... up side is that I can pull out of 2nd gear corners much more efficiently and tend not to drop out of Vtec as often.

Well I will also have a very light flywheel and that should help me get through the gears pretty quick. I was thinking of running like a 15'' SSR Comp. I figured the flywheel will make up for getting through the gears "quicker". The 15 will cover more ground in revolution and they only weigh 8lbs

Also Im not sure what the exact size is, i will have to find out. Seeing as im leaning to the 15's now (after deep thinking on my 2 hour break inbetween classes lol) it might be irrelevant now. We will see though. All input of suggestions are welcome!

im running 14 in. hx wheels (14x6?) with 195/60 azenis. I'm dropped apx. 1.75 in front, 1.5 in back. no rubbing. if you're dropped enough with 225s you'll rub. pound out those fenders, wheel spaces and you should be good

you can bolt them on (if you are not slammed, which hurts cornering anywhom..) i ran 225/45-15 hoosier a3s03's on stock 15x6 wheels on my wifes 99 si in E stock will no issues at all.

Civicman, what class are you running?

DSP for my last season

Im definatly not slammed. I ran slammed up front for about 2 races and since their was no suspension travel the car handled like ****. It handles very well now.

What kind of wheels are those if they clear stock Si calipers? I tried some Circle Racing wheels which didn't do so well.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back. I found the lowered gearing advantageous, especially when I was N.A. Now that I'm making double the HP and torque, 3rd gear gets here pretty quick but only on bigger courses. I'm also still at the stock rev limit of 6800 rpm's...

>>Also how did you get them to fit up front? When I tried to put a set of 13's on the iner part of the wheels rubs on the brake bleeder and part of the caliper. I tried to shave it down some but I couldnt. Thanks ahead of time!<<

That's a weird problem considering how small the stock 6G calipers are. I never had any clearance issues there at all. My main concern was the 5" backspacing on the 13" wheel. The inside lip of the rim comes pretty close to the upper control arm, but it clears. That's the only clearance problem I've had. BTW, I have never ever rubbed a front fender. I slightly rubbed one of my rear fenders years ago, but changes to the suspension since then have taken care of any of that. BTW, my spring rates aren't that stiff. 300F/400R with Suspension Techniques sway bars (front and rear). I'd really like to increase the spring rates, but even now the tires never rub.

For an SP car I think 13's are definitely the way to go. Some folks are experimenting with larger diameter wheels in Street Mod, but they can make all the power they want... Larger wheels may turn out to be the best choice for SM Honda's, I guess we'll see.

Well this will be last year NA im pretty sure. So I dont want to invest in the 13's if they will hurt me in the long run. I dont know we will just have to see how money is in a month or so. Thanks for the help though!
