i got all the bolts needed to take off the lower timing belt cover and i ran into another problem. there is the a rod sticking out near the motor mount. i dunno wat it is called. it has grooves in it and looksl ike a 10mm wrench can fit on it. that thing is preventing me from pullin off the timing cover. i cant pull the cover around it. not sure if that is enuff detail for u guys to noe wat it is, but help is appreciated. thanks
I'll go look right now and see if I can come up with an answer for you.
EDIT: It is the maintenance bolt. It should have a lockpin on it that you must remove before pulling off the lower ocver. There should be a rubber seal there too (don't lose that). Just below the mount there's another seal that goes on the adjusting nut for the tensioner by the way.

DOnt cut anything! As long as you got the bolts and lock pin out, the cover should come off. IF its not, make sure nothing else is making contact. Never cut anything or force anything out. Thats how your break things and end up in deeper ****.
listen...
that bolt is only to prevent the tensioner from moving. You DONT remove that bolt. if you force it, you'll snap it off where it bolts into the water pump. You WILL be able to remove the timing cover if you remove that rubber grommet around that maintanance bolt.

Can you take some motor mounts off and lift or lower the motor enough to give you more room to work with? I know in the prelude you can take off the driver side motor mount and you can lower the engine some, just make sure when you do this you dont put strain or pull any hoses.
What is it your trying to do? Change the T belt?

i tried to the crank gear to set my engine to tdc and to take out my old timing belt ( i ripped it while tryint to take the crank pulley off, it got stuck and squished *whoops) I dunno if this is odd or not but, my tensioner bolt was on the outside of my timing cover (i needed to take the bolt out before i could get the timing cover off). is this normal or not?

why they have to make it difficult to take that dang cover off.....maybe its made so that stupid people cant take it off....i guess that includes me...hahah...who cares....
the auto tensioner adjusts it self, the only thing is if taken out it will have to be re-compressed and held at that position to be able to put it back on. All you have to do is remove the bolt (Make sure no oil spills out) and get a screw driver and turn it so the tensioner compresses. Then you have to hold it like that, there is a special metal bracket that comes with it when you buy one but ive also heard of people holding it down with a zip tie?
If you look at the picture above, its the metal thing on #25

on a prelude its hard to take the lower cover off too.. what you need to do is loosen up the side motor mount so it will drop the engine to the side a bit enough to slip the cover off, this is what the service manual says, its easy to do, works like a charm every time
