Default F23A1... What kind of mods should I do, yet stay reliable?

Okay here's the deal...

I just bought a '98 Acura 2.3 CL it is an automatic( yeah I know). I want it to be decently fast. Here's the catch... I have a little girl who is three weeks old and who will be in the car with me from time to time. So I don't want something so loud that it's going to kill her ears. I want to be able to drive in my new car comfortably.

I was not able to drive comfortably in my last car which was a '90 accord with h22 swap and Apex'i N1 exhaust(way too loud, but looked good). I'm not trying to do 13's although that would be nice. I'm thinking more around low to mid 14's if possible.

This car comes with the F23A1 which is a 2.3L SOHC VTEC... I'm considering turbo but don't know what kind of application I should go with or how much boost I can run. Any suggestions would be appreciated as long as your not telling me to go get another car .

Thanks in advance everyone!

A'PEXi WS for the exhaust.

Grab an F-Max, or DRAG kit. Boost up to 8psi, and you should be fine.

werd to that. either will be fine and will give you all the horses you need, however both kits have a lot of stuff you could fab yourself, like charge piping oil return and feed fittings etc, just a way you could save some bux

ar..crono...WS is not exactly cool with boost, since there's a fat resonator and the size of the piping is not exactly the fittest.

reliable=socal mod job

cai, header, catback

Spring+shock+antiroll bar+tie bar+front strut bar

i swear all the honda in socal looks the same

Yeah I know I'm going to lose some reliability with a turbo but is it really that unreliable?

I know the WS wouldn't be to good with a turbo but I could firgure out what exhaust to go with later. The big thing is the turbo kit to go with. Are you sure 8psi isn't too high? I would have thought 6 maybe 7psi tops.

6,7,8# is fiiiiine, just manage it properly and it will be cool for years, that motor will hold 8# n/p. as far as reliability, like I said manage it properly and theres no reason why it won't last as long as you have the vehicle, just change all your fluids regularly

Shouldn't the WS be fine for low boost? You're not running it on some high-powered DOHC motor, or anything. Just a simple SOHC motor.

Don't go past 8psi on an automatic on stock internals. Oh, and grab a tranny cooler while your at it. It'll save you money in the long run. I know of a few people with turbo 6th Gen running 0.5 bar (automatics, too) without any problems. I believe one kid is on his third motor, but still the same tranny. It's lasted for just around 3 years.

it's very different for FI, you dont get much for adding an intake for na but for FI, any restriction would be a majoy power lost, I was using mesh on compress type of filter, after i got some money and get a real intake arm for the compressor, the turbo spools up so much quicker.
same thing goes for downpipe and exhaust.

you dont even need a resonator on turbo car, it's hella quiet

grab a DRAG or F-max turbo kit. u can run 7psi forever, 7psi aint ****. i/h/e ......lol......u aint gonna feel jack, but the turbo....thats another story, ur gonna feel it for sure. i've pulled on a 240 whp older turbo supra, 252whp verfied by a dyno 330CI BMW, 350Z, mustang GTs left n right, 3.5 5spd altima(14.3 quarter mile time slip).....dude in the altima said he thought i maybe in the high 13's cause the way i pulled on him....he had intake and exhaust, and just ran the 14.3 testing out the bolt ons he put on. i have stock engine and clutch, its stood up to mad abuse, since 24,000 when i got it. i now have 96,000, and it's been through 16 bottles of nitrous on a 75 shot, and now i'm running 7psi on a drag kit(got rid of the nitrous), but the turbo feels great, and according to my compression tests, my engine is in great shape. just waiting on the clutch to go out soon, but i have yet felt it slip, it's weird, but the clutch is hanging in there, i guess its a super HONDA clutch :D

i also think the MSD 6A ignition and external blaster coil have some to do with all this abuse. i have the F23 in a 6th gen 5spd accord

i know F-max is a good kit, but it seems the DRAG kits are putting out more, but i have yet to verify it on a dyno.

DRAG is a better basic kit. if you plan to get seriious, fmax gives you more **** you won't need in the long run IMO

If the fmax is going to give me more crap that I'm not gonna need then the DRAG would probably be better to go with. Is that correct?

The plan would be to go with a basic turbo and intercooler setup boostin around 5-6 psi and being able to up it to 8psi if need be.

The DRAG kit is also a couple hundred bucks cheaper.
