Harness question... Get a vtec harness or add wires to my existing?
Well...
I am trying to keep costs down so I was wondering how hard it is to add the necessary wires to my existing harness.
I have a '96 Civic hatch.
I am installing a B20/vtec motor.
Thanks in advance...

The wiring shouldn't be all that hard depending upon which engine your car came with. You should be able to find all the info here on HT, and it should prove to be much cheaper in the long run.

I agree w/ Kendall's response and to add...
If you plan to reuse your existing (non-vtec) engine wire harness, you have to do a few things in order to make your harness compatible with a B-series VTEC or even a non-VTEC engine, and its all contained in my diagrams here:

An easy solution to avoid virtually any wiring as mentioned in my diagrams, would be to use a 96-98 EX engine harness with your engine swap. It's pretty much the gold harness to use that plugs n' plays onto a B-series engine. The only wiring would be extending a few wires, but thats about it.
