Header smoking and strange smell after install??
I installed my DC 4-1 header last night and after the install we fired up the motor and there was a white smoke coming off of the header. I shined a light on it to make sure it was sealed and was not coming out of and spaces, but it was coming straight off of the header. After diriving it for about 15 min. the smoke was gone and hasnt come back since, but there is still a weird smell coming from it kinda like plastic. The smell was there with the smoke when I first started it but the smell has gone away for the most part. Anyone know what could have caused this??? TIA
Sounds like you may have had a packing p-nut or something in one of the pipes. Im sure that it will eventually burn itself out though.
doesn't seem like anything to worry about. it's probably some of the coating on the header burning off. as for the smell, it'll smell like that till you "break in" or drive around w/ the header....just like when you put on a muffler...it'll go away after awhile
i got a strange smell after installing the ceramic header i bought, but now i have no problem... smoking doesn't sound too good though.

I know sometimes you can smell the new welds when they get hot, but it doesn't smell like plastic. I was guessing with the p-nut
