So I talked to a local shop and they said they would install a greddy turbo kit, intercooler, types wastegate, and a turbo timer for 3200 which includes tuning. They also said if I wanted to build up my block with sleeves, rod, pistons it would be around 1500. They quoted me 750 for a newer d16 installed out the door.
Are these good prices????

Do it yourself! That's the fun part! I guess if you don't have the proper tools or a place to do it then you can't do it yourself and if that is the case I have no idea what a good price would be.

^^ What he said... if you were in South Fla I could direct you in the right direction. I know a couple of people in particular who work for cheap!

 

3200 would be the price with the Greddy kit. How hard is it to do. Is it simple nuts and bolts, or is it more complicated. Anyone have a walkthrough on how to install it, cause I would like to see exactly what it consists of.

Also what tools do you need. I have socket and wrench sets, impact wrench. what elso do you need?

How much is just the kit? That way we know exactly how much labor they are charging you. Also what are they going to tune the blue box? What is your fuel setup?

 

3200? are they high on glue? For a d series greddy kit installed that's hella way too much. Shop down here charged me 400(still high) for just the kit installation and another charged me only $150 for the greddy ic installation. And I got my greddy kit brand new for 1100. So spent 1100 kit + 590 greddy ic + 400 install + 150 ic install = $2240 total. I'd say DIY. As long as you are somewhat competant you can do it. I remember when I did my first greddy kit right after I graduated from high school. Didn't know jack my car or how to change anything. And installing myself really helped me learn how to do things. It's fairly simple, everything is just bolted together. It's up to you though.

 

i did my install my self. good luck on the install. if u have the tools its soooooo damn easy. the only problem i had was the stupid oil feed fromt he back of the block. took me awhile to get that sucker in. but took me a day to do it myself with no help a complete greddy kit. and mine was a used kit.. hahah.

 

honestly a $3200 turbo kit installed and tuned doesnt sound like a bad deal to me...

its def more worthwhile to do it yourself tho

hey! i was gonna say that. and me and yaniel are not cheap labor damnit... we just undercharged the guy hehehe.

anyway to the original poster... if u don't feel comfortable diong the install yourself then that doesn't seem like that bad of a price i guess (i haven't really kept track of the price of labor since i try to do most my own work). if ur comfortable doing any mechanic work and have the time and place and resources (oh and patience) then maybe you shoudl attempt it yourself. it's a greddy kit so it's pretty straight forward. and http://www.turbocivic.net is a good resource for tips on the install of that kit. well good luck meng

 

Hey igo4bmx i read your post I just didn't click on the link because I was in a hurrying this morning. But I did now and I appeciate it. It was exatctly what I was looking for and now I am convinced I can to it myself.

The prices the shop quoted me were as follows.
1900 Turbo Kit
600 Labor
600 Ic

To TurboB18b I was wondering what exactly they would tune also cause I thought the Blue Box tunes your car for you. Also my Fuel Management is Stock.

What is the going rate for a Greddy turbo kit here on HT. I heard someone say 1100 but the cheapest I saw was 1300.

What type of HP/TQ numbers am I to expect form this Kit with intercooler and BOV.

Thanks for all of your help in convincing me to do it myself. It sounds like it would be fun to do as well as pretty simple. Not to mention the wad of cash I will save.

Sounds about right. Could be done cheaper if you do it yourself.

 

Has everybody forgotten about FPR? FP? INJECTORS ALSO? That is definitely a way too much 3200? haha you can most definitely piece together your own for 1200 and it'd be alot better anddddddd installing turbo is pretty much bolt ons just like installing an intake hahaha but a little bit more complex =P im doing mine this weekend hopefully it'll come out a o k but the hard part is the welding i'm most likely just going to take my DP, flex pipes and exhaust to a welder and get those welded.
