You will need a steel malot and the biggest pry bar you can find...
Pop out the little square cover under the e-brake handle, remove 2 screws. on the sides of the console there should be 2 black smaller phillips screw.

you then have to pull out the ashtray and I believe there are around 4 there ( I have mine out and a Fields there, so I can't remember exactly)
that should be it, just lift the rear portion of it out after you take the screws out by the e brake and the rest just pops out....
hope this helps
how about putting center console back? my ash tray is loose and i have a couple of clips. where do they go?
If you just want to remove your ashtray and cigarette lighter, remove the ashtray and you should find two screws behind. Loosen those and proceed to tug the whole ashtray/cigarette lighter out. You'll find a plug for the cig. lighter, just unplug that and on the top portion there should be two protruding pieces of plastic, where the clips go.
If you want to remove the whole plastic piece, there are screws on each side where your right knee, or passenger left knee would be...unscrew them. From removing the ashtray/ciglighter portion, there will be screws visible on each top corner. Unscrew those and you should be able to wiggle out the whole plastic portion surrounding the radio, shifter etc...
I apologize for the lame directions...
thanks everyone. i didn't realize i hade to take the armrest off also. thats a lot of work just to replace the shift boot, but looks nice now with the red stiching.
