What kind of engine should I get in my 1991 CR-X SI?
I hear all this D16A6 & D16Z6 ****. But I have no idea what that **** means. I want to get high horsepower and high torque. I would like it to be under $3000. I just want it to look & run good.
get a d16z6, v-tec yo! or get a d16a6 non-vtec yo! both are peppy. not too high on horsepower, but ur car is lightweight and they get up and go. but its your car. i have a sohc zc and it is peppy enough for me. i dont race so mine is A okay. well hopefully this helped out. but im not much help.

You have plenty of choices for under $3K. I would do some research first on your different choices. You can go with any of the motors listed in this thread and still have money left over after swap if you do it yourself and do it right.
If I ever need to replace my current engine, I would do a sohc vtec turbo. A few reasons, because, bseries vtec engines are disappearing and played out. Plus, I'm not dealing with rewiring my car again. Plus, I can use most of my parts anyway. In the long run, I wanna keep my car fun and different which is already is. Not many people own moderately built ZC's in Texas. If you wanna just enjoy your car without doing alot of modding, the b16 would probably be the better choice. I think H series engines are too large for CRX's personally, bseries are good for moderate power. I would consider LS because they are plentiful and have good torque. It will be plenty for a start.

What reason????</TD></TR></TABLE>
Because they make more power than a D series motor.

and your point is.............. IMO <U>MOST</U> people go with sohc engines because they cannot afford a b-series or higher....

Vtec doesnt own me...big cubic inch v8's with lots of torque.....but wait I guess gas mileage owns me thats why I daily drive a Honda....If you have enough $ get a b20 with a gsr trans. The b20 is the biggest b series and will have the most potental in the long run. Put a VTEC head on it and youll be set. if you put the same mods on a b16a and same mods on a b20/vtec the b 20 would have way more torque and a lil more hp. b16a are great though if you dont want to do machine work on a engine..If all you want is fresh out teh crate hp the b16a is a good deal...imo a b18a/b will not be much faster or fun in stock form over a dohc zc with si trans. b18a would be kick *** for turbo and better than dohc zc if you plan on doing internal mods

Can someone help me? I think I found an engine on http://www.nippon-motors.com/P...s.htm
It's the 8th one down. It's the B16A.

nothing wrong with being a buget tuner. There is alot of hidden potential behind the d series...which is DEFINATLY starting to hit the scene. People puttind down 150whp+ with the d series all motor is not so uncommon anymore. PLus d16s with their 90mm stroke tend to have more torque then the famous b16. So i think people jump on the b16 bandwagon is because its easy to do...Alot more respect will come from me to an all motor d16 with a 150whp then a b16 with a 150whp.
There isnt much these days that can set people apart in the realm of honda tuning. So being "differnet" and doin the d series route is becoming much more poplular.
For example. b18a in a crx runs around low 15's high 14's Dependin on driver.
d16z6 in a crx runs mid to low 15's. Even seen some high 14's before. NOt that far off for a fraction of the price. Most people dont do anythign else besides the swap and bolt ons. So why spend money on the b series?
People would say "has more potential" but serioulsy. Do you think someone new to the scene is gonna know anything about "tuning". Prolly not. Especially this guy. doesnt even know what a b16 is.
I hope no one takes offense to this. but im just trying to put things in a perspective that i see it from. So take it as your will.

I would go with a b16a its fairly cheap....the only reason I have a SOHC is because im too broke for anything else....If i had my choice I would get a gsr engine but I have no money so my sohc is fine for now while I build my b18a1
I would say go with the LS. If you ever wanna boost you already have good compression. As for B16's I like them don t get me wrong, but they have low torque. A LS will get you off the line faster. High end, a B16 will come back on you. It just depends on how you plan on building it.....
