Default can a apexi vafc be used to run vtec on ls/vtec

just an idea me and a friend were wondering if using only the vafc with a ls computer will this engage vtec. we have heard mixed answers. i don't think it will. i think it is there to modifiey the engagment point. has anyone actually done this is what i want to hear. thanks guyz

The LS computer doesn't have VTEC to engage. If you plan on running an APEXi piggyback with the LS computer, then check out the SAFC, it should fit the bill a bit better. But the VAFC should work great with a VTEC ECU on an LS/VTEC motor.

Rule of thumb: use the VAFC only on VTEC ECU's.

what i was saying with a ls computer can i use the vafc to activate the vtec. the car has a vtec head on it right now and it has a ls ecu.i say no but if there is anyone that has done it or tried it to know for sure that it works. i know msd has a rpm switch that would do it but i am almost positive that the afc doesn't have this capabilities

Yes...the vafc will kick in the vtec and will adjust the fueling to compensate.

No. The LS ECU doesn't have the capabilities to turn on VTEC, and the VAFC can't give it the ability, it only modifies an existing ability. You're going to have to buy a VTEC ECU.

like kendall said, the VAFC will not give ur computre the ability to use VTEC, you need a VTEC ecu! then only can you use the VAFC for adjusting vtec engagement...etc. etc.

Yes it will work; the vafc can control vtec in conjunction with a nonvtec ecu. note: your timing maps will be off. Keep the vafc and get a p28 w/ a nice proggy.

New info to me, I've not seen it done. I maintain that it would be best to run a VTEC ECU though.

yep, it will work, but as sayd above vafc compensates for fuel not for timming; so you'll still have non vtec timming.
Waaayyyy better to get vtec ecu
