Default Spoon SW388 Question?

I am looking into getting a set of the spoon wheels for my rsx. I was hoping to get some opinions on size from those that have had an experiance with them. I was looking at som 16 by 7 up front and 16 by 8 in the back. If anyone can help me get a good size width and offset for daily driving, track use, and possible auto-x I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Shawn

I thought the different widths were for the S2K?

Otherwise try and get the special order ones in 17"

I don't want to go any bigger than 16 inches. If the different widths are for the s2k, then what width and offset is recomended for 16 inch wheels on a rsx.
TIA -Shawn

If anything, on a front drive car, go with the wider wheels in the front.

That way you will get the performance benefit they can offer.

Putting the wider wheel in the back is only good for a rear-wheel drive car. It will keep your fwd car from rotating... which is not good.

Besides, people at a track might laugh at you if you put fatty wheels on the back of a fwd car!

reverse the order of width.....you need wider tires up front and thinner on the back for front wheel drive........believe me...and all the N1 circuit racers that race in the front wheel drive class...

16" by 7" with the 45mm offset...
Your factory whels are 16" by 6.5" 45mm offset...

What color is your car...

The general consensus I've read is that YES a wider wheel will be an improvement, even with the same size tire.

This allows the 'shoulder' of the tire to be more squared off and helps optimize the full tread contact with the ground (and in the widths you're talking about using, 6.5 is the bare minimum width anyways).

You'll find racers running 7.5" and 8" wide wheels with the same 205 azenis that most folks run on thier 6.5" wheels, because the Azenis behave like a much wider tire on the wider rims, even though they are the same size.

Also, having a slilghtly smaller tire will make your accelleration zippier, but you wont notice the difference on your speedo unless you are testing with lasers, etc.... the stock speedo is not very accurate to start with.

I suggest you go with the 17 inch Spoon SW388's and nothing smaller than that, I've seen 17 inch Volk TE37's on the RSX and looks great due to the wider body panels unlike the 94-01 integras.

I think 17 inch is to big, I want to have some trck days with my car. Wouldn't 16's be better for that vs. 17 inch wheels. I know if there were any differences, I am sure they would be minimal. I am gonna go with the 16's. -Shawn

Sw388's dont come 17, but regamaster evo's do. personally i would roll 17's. if you decide to upgrade brakes, ur prolly gonna have to upsize to 17 anyway

You can order 17" Spoon sw388's from certain distributors...There is a guy on the boards who is locatd in Hawaii and he can get them...As for performance don't you think that if the DC5 chassis would have handled better on 16" wheels that Spoon would have had them on their cars. I tyink they run some Work wheels now in 17"

Unfortunately you cannot get 17" SW388 as they are not in production. Whoever told you they could special order it is either mistaken or is taking you for a ride.

Spoon has no plans to offer a 17" version of the SW388. For its 17" wheels, Spoon is currently in a sponsorship arrangement with Work wheels. Hence on all new generation Spoon cars, the DC5, EP3, and Euro-R, you see 17" Work Emotion/Emotion CR.

The 17" SW388 pic that has circulated around the internet was of one set of 17" Regamaster EVO that had been painted black.

If you want a 17" "SW388" look, that is your only option at this point, to buy a set of Regamaster EVO and paint them black. Unless Rota makes a 17" version of the Slipstream

Spikey, Thank you for that info. I am glad you could clear that up. I just have one more question. I do plan to either upgrade to the brembo brake package the dc5-r comes with, or get the spoon rotors and calipers. Will I have to be running a 17 inch wheel to fit the spoon brakes. Id think you would have to with the brembos, because honda is running them with 17's. Any clarification and opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, -Shawn

Brembo's big brake package is like 12.9in front, u def need to roll on 17s- up with the right offset for brake clearance.

I really like the Work Emotion CR wheels. Do any of you know any distributors that carry them in black in 17 inches. Also what offset and width would be recommended for my car with these wheels. Thanks for all the help. -Shawn
