MSD RPM ACTIVATED SWITCH WIRING HELP FOR MY CIVIC
I need some help wiring up my msd rpm activated switch to my 89 civic si with a single vtec this how i was told to wire it up.
THE MSD WIRING
REDWIRE - I PUT IT TO THE BATTERY
BLACK WIRE - I PUT IT TO THE BODY OF CAR
WHITE WIRE - I PUT IT TO THE NEG SIDE OF IGNITION COIL
YELLOW WIRE - I PUT IT TO #86 ON THE RELAY
GREY WIRE - NOT USED
THE RELAY WIRING
#85 - I PUT IT TO A FUSE THAT GET POWER WHEN THE KEY IS ON
#86 - I PUT IT TO THE YELLOW WIRE FROM THE MSD
#30 - I PUT IT TO THE BATTERY
#87 - I PUT IT TO THE VTEC SOLENOID(GREEN/YELLOW WIRE
#87a - NOT USED
Now the problem i'm having is the vtec is not kicking in and i also test the vtec solenoid by puting a wire to the battery and it heard it click more then ones so i know that works(if thats not how to test let me know please) the next problem is when the car is running my rpm gauge don't work

PROBLEM 1: tell me you have a good multimeter that can test dwell & rpms, this is essential.
PROBLEM 2: Make sure you didn't disconnect or interrupt your tach signal to your tachometer Blue with white? I can't remember, test it. See if you have a CEL also. The MSD may not be getting a tach signal just like your tach.
Do your tach prob 1st
PROBLEM 3:Check the yellow wire #86 to make sure its throwing a - ground trigger. Your relay appears correct as long as your relay is getting the ground signal.

can some one help me by telling me what color wire does the white wire from msd go to on my distributor

Yep, I just checked my 90 civic TSM - eletrical trouble shooting & the correct color is Blue.From the dist. to the dash. I couldn't remember at first but, thats correct.
