air research turbo internal wastegate????
i have a t3/air research turbo but it has a internal wastegate and my manifold is for a external can i take off the external off of the turbo or do i have to use the internal. also how can i find out what specs the turbo is.
The wastegate attached to the turbo itself is called the internal wastegate and can be removed. There is usually a whole cast section that has the swing arm assembly attached to it that will need to be taken off. You will then need a flange that blocks off the extra wastegate hole(the smaller of the two holes you'll see). Then you are good to go, mount your external wastegate onto the manifold and you're set.
For the specs you'll be pretty much limited to AR size. Look inside the lip of the turbine(cast/hot side) inlet and for the compressor(aluminum/cold side) look either inside the lip of the compressor outlet which would go to your intercooler piping and eventually throttle body. Some compressor sizes are located on the outer side of the compressor housing.
They will look like this ".63AR or .48A/R" or something along those lines, there are also other measurements of the impeller and such that can be done to figure out exactly what the other specs of the turbo are but I figured that the AR was what you were looking for.
