car running weird. fields vtec controller is the cause. (related to the fields & map sensor prob)
today I was pulling into my driveway when I pushed in the clutch and the cars rpms dropped and then the car cut off. so i cranked it back up only to have it cut off again. so the next time i cranked it I pushed on the gas and held it steady. the rpms fluctuated and the car acted weird (like not enough fuel). so then i touched the function button on the fields controller and the car revved back to life like nothing was ever wrong with it. and whats weird is i never got a check engine light. the car cut off a couple weeks ago and i got a check engine light for the map sensor. i had the controller on the rpms settings when it started acting weird then i pushed the button to change it to speed and the car was fine after that. maybe the controller just goes nutty in the rpm setting? well the cars problem is definetly in the controller. i guess i will just have to get rid of it. oh well. anyone else have any updates on the problem?
sorry for the long post...

did you solder your connections? i had the same problems so i took mine out and everythings back to normal. i've heard that that happens if your connections arent good. i've also noticed that ppl that solder it dont have problems.
I had my connections soldered and I still have this problem too. It seems to be related to the unit itself, not the connections at the ecu. For me, the problem occurs most often when it is cold outside. After hitting a bump the car will continue to run poorly, but will have no power. For me it was a almost always fixed by restarting the car, but I tried changing the mode on the Fields last night and that works for me also. When these incidents occur my a/f ratio guage reads full lean no matter what postiton the throttle is in.
I've had the same problems with my Fields Unit for the longest time. Ditch the fields unit and get the Apexi VAFC. I did that and all my code 3 and map sensor and stalling problems went away.
Do yourself a favor, just take a sledge hammer and smack the Fields unit into as many pieces as you can.

The Apex may do teh same thing.
M ycar seems to act sluggish at times also..and once it a while it dies and wont start up for a few seconds...almost as if its flooded with fuel.
I think its because of the Apex S-AFC.

Hummm, interesting case. How old is the S-AFC that you have? I think that over time these units go bad. but I'm hoping that the Apex VAFC is a better quality and more relible product than the Fields.

yo i dont have my apexi vafc in yet, but i had that problem where it feels like not enough fuel. i got msd ignition wires, new platinum spark plugs, new fuel filter, new distributor cap and rotor and it ran like new. i have 104k new plugs were long over due. check that out. other then ignition wires its a cheap fix.
