Default An R replacement? WRX STi it's official....

Well apparently it is official. According to AutoWeek, on Speedvision yesterday, Subaru representatives said the WRX STi will be coming to the States in 2003 as a 2004 model. WOW is this good news, if it is true. We will have a car to buy when our R's are getting some age on them.

STi's are a VERY nice car. Here in Australia we are getting sick to death of the WRX's and in places like Sydney they've developed a VERY bad reputation. However the STi never loses it's awesome reputation as an affortable car that lines up against cars that are hundreds of thousands of dollars more expensive.

From a recent issue of SCC. They made me believe that the Lancer VII is coming to America as well. There is no comparison between this and STi. Same traits, but different league.
Although it's not official, but SCC had it right: " Why the hell would a company spend advertising and funds on a car (SCCA Rally and other with Lancer VII), if they are not bringing it here". And also, remember when the first car companies started to make SUVs and the demand is high? And nowadays, every company even Hyundai have SUVs in their arsenal? Well.....this could be it...from the factory, .95g and 12.9 1/4 4WD monster. It will be my R replacement as well...goodbye SCCA SoloII, hello SCCA Rally.

The WRX STi will humble the RSX-R. At least 60hp more, and more grip on the skidpad? No contest. However I am guessing the STi will cost more like $40K.

Doubt it. Just look at the price difference between the regular WRX and the STi in other countries. It's not 90% more. I'm guesstimating $31-32K.

I even prefer the Scoobie to the Lancer VII because of its better balanced boxer engine.

So the RSX Type R will beat it here by a year.

Why not get the WRX now and do the performance upgrade yourself? Forget about waiting a couple years, unless you guys really want the real STi..

well for the money you would save buying an rsx-r
you could slap a good size turbo in it and do some
suspension upgrades and there went that 60 hp

Well, nobody's sure how much hp the STi will have if it comes here.. hopefully it'll be 280+hp. However, no matter how many mods you do to an RSX-R, it'll never have the awd the STi has, and if you even can get the RSX-R to run a 13 flat like the STi does, it won't be nearly as reliable as the factory turbo'd and warrantied STi. Just some thoughts

Really? What are the slalom speeds? With struts up front(?) and 400 lbs heavier(?) I wouldn't think it would be that great.

Too slow. Type R's are cool cars, I love mine. BUT, if we want to be honest with oursleves, another 50 ponies and 50 lb/ft would have been real nice.

I'm holding out for the Lancer myself. According to this months SCC, the "unofficial official" word is October of next year.

Beleive me... it'd be alot better to own a geniune STi than to do up a standard WRX. And another thing, the EVO's are better than the STi, hands down.

you know i keep hearing this comment and i don't know why. we've had subarus in the family since 1985 and none of our subes have ever broken. my dad's thrashed his old gl-10 wagon to 250,000mi until he overheated it and blew up one of the heads. our current legacy has never had a single problem, which is something that i can't say for my itr, which i admit has had it's share.
