Someone broke into my car
Two days ago someone broke into my 92 Prelude SI. They were dumb crooks. They tried stealing the whole car but ended up giving up and just stole my cd/mp3 player without the face plate, battery, inspection stickers, tags, and my front licence plate. I'm not worried about any of those things they stole, the battery was almost dead anyway and the stickers and mp3/cd player can easily be accquired back, but the fact that they jammed a screw driver inside my ignition. Now the cylinder that has all the teeth are all screwed up and out of alignment and I can't even put my key in it. I was wondering how much would it cost to get that fixed. I'm kind of on a tight budget because I just paid for tuition.
If I remember corectly, it cost me $110 to have mine fixed. If you're on a tight bugdet, you could always bypass the cylinder and turn the actual ignition swith with a flat head screw driver.
Dude thats not a lot, I was thinking it was cost around 600-800 since it had to be custom made for my key. I probably get it done this weekend if thats the case.
I wanted to correct myself. If you go to the dealership, they don't sell you the key assembly separately here so you'd have to buy the key assembly and steering lock together. That'll cost $488.96. I belive it'll ost $120 labor.
Was for part of the ignition switch that went bad on me a few years ago. SOrry man

I just checked with some local shops in my area and they were saying the part would cost $270 and $105 for labor.
If you're low on cash, I'd see if insurance can do something aboout it and have the Honda shop do it.
If you're not covered on insurance, I'd go to a local shop and have them do it since it'll cost less than the Honda place.
Good Luck

that happened to me once. a bunch of amateurs tried stealing my car and banged up the ignition pretty bad. i think it cost me about 150 - 200 with the new cylinder and labor. i have some ghetto lookin key now for the ignition.

They popped a pin in my key cylinder and started my car w/ a screwdriver when they stole me car last year.
When I got it back, the key wouldn't go in....only the screwdriver would work. After some banging and monkeying around, I believe the pin they popped fell back in and I could use it w/ my key, just like normal.

I'm not the average college student that is broke all the time, I just don't have money at the moment. It will get fixed either this weekend or next if it cost more than 500. I had just taken the insurance off very recently, since I got a F150 and I rarely drive the lude ever since I got it. Its like the insurance set me up. Thanks a lot guys.
