Question about setting TDC on new cam gears
Asking for a friend of mine:
Ok, he got the new STR cam gears with the goofy timing marks on them. He's putting them on his stock B16 cams. He needs help locating TDC because he is assembling the motor and just put the cams in, so he doesn't really know off the top of his head where TDC is exactly. There are several marks, of course, on the cam gears, but there is only on mark enscribed on the bronze inner portion of the cam gear. Any help is greatly appreciated!
TIA

The best thing to do is to set the cam to TDC by lining up the two guide holes. There's a small hole in each cam that when turned to TDC will line up with a hole in the oil supply rail (long flat alum piece that bolts over the cam caps). You can use a small allen head to hold it in place. Once you have it lined up that way, you can look and see what STR is using for TDC on the cam gear.
umm, there should be a pin on the camshaft which only allows the cam gear to go on one way. Then looking at the cam gear it should have a line/notch where tdc is. Same with the crank pulley.
