Oil Pressure Gauge.
does anyone have an oil pressure gauge installed to monitor their oil level? Popping the hood to check can become annoying after awhile.
So you can tell your oil level by your pressure guage
Like what... when the level drops below the pickup your guage reads 0..LOL
You guy's crack me up! ( Not trying to slam anyone, it's just kind of funny sometimes what people say in the heat of an argument )
Ok so before you send a swat team over to *rub* me out... enlighten me...
except in an oil starvation situation, how does oil level affect oil pressure?
I finally clued in that my float level affects my A/F mixture
( you fuel injection guys don't have to worry about that )..so now maybe I can
learn something else..

Variations in oil pressure can be attributed to oil level.
When I first change the oil and it is right at the top, oil pressure may be
higher than normal. This i also attribute to the oil being new.
As the oil level goes down, so do oil pressure readings. Eventually if you let it get
down 2 quarts or more, when taking turns or accelerating, oil pressure will
REALLY drop.
I've been watching my gauges for so long that I can tell you if something is
a rye just by watching how fast the gauge reacts.

Ummm... I think we are arguing ( I mean discussing ) from the same point of view.. I understand that as you lose viscosity due to oil breaking down from use that your mean oil pressure will drop ( that's grade one stuff ) but your oil can change viscosity and remain at the full mark on your dipstick.. This then would not be an indication of oil level, just oil condition.
I understand that if your oil level drops below your pickup for whatever reason that your oil pressure will drop.. the longer you starve for oil, the more your pressure will drop.. IF this is what you consider a being able to tell your oil level by pressure..then ..well..duh.
OF COURSE if you run out of oil you will get a pressure drop. But as long as the pickup remains in the oil stream the actual level of the surface of the oil above the pickup will have NO effect on the pressure. If I put a larger resevoir on my dry sump, my pressure will remain the same, just as if you dump 3 extra liters of oil into your sump. ( Iknow.. I know... that would be a bad idea ).
What you guy's are saying is that you can tell your oil level by your oil pressure. Please tell me that you are not letting your oil pressure drop ( from starvation )
act as a signal to add oil... OUCH...
When you are experiencing oil pressure reduction during the life cycle of your oil, it is from oil degradation, not from oil level... Keep some old oil around if you don't believe me, and next time your oil pressure indicates a low oil level, dump some of that old oil in.. if it has the same worn out viscosity as you current oil your oil pressure will not change, even with a full crankcase.. ( I don't really expect anybody to do this, but do you see my point )
