Default 16's or 17's for a turbo teg???

whew! i just got done reading every archived post on kosei k1's and i'm 99% sure i'm going to get a set but i've got a few questions for anyone who can give me an answer...

first, i'm torn between whether i to go with the 16's or 17's, i'd prefer 17's but the reason i'm getting new rims is because i think my current 17in. tantrums are slowing me down a bit (not to mention the lack of traction, i'm open to tire suggestions as well btw) what do you guys think?

also, as a compromise, i've considered (and don't laugh if this is a dumb idea but i haven't heard of anyone trying it or knocking it) 17in. k1s for the rear and 16's in the front...is that a dumb idea or has someone tried that before?

oh yeah, and also what color do you guys think i should get for my ssb gsr? silver or white?
tia

Dont mismatch rims, that looks shitty. Also get 16's if you got rid of the 17's because of weight. 205/45/16 my choice.

The new BFG drag radials will take care of your traction problems. Also G S R has 15's on his car and it looks really nice with the drop he has on it.

I have 16"/17" combo with Kosei Senekas and 97blackteg is wrong, it looks pretty good, as long as the drops are roughly equal. I get complements (more than I bet I would with just 16s or 17s).

However, I strongly suggest you keep the sizes the same I have a bitch of a time when replacing worn/blown tires. Stick with 16s and you'll look pretty sharp/nice/suttle yet purposeful

well that's why i asked...oh well there goes that idea...

well the tantrums are pretty heavy rims and moving to lighter wheels even if they are the same size should help out right? i'm trying to justify getting 17's again because tirerack is selling them for the same price as the 16's...call me a sucker for a deal

215/45 16 will most likely rub depending on how low your car is (fender gap). I suggest 215/40 16 which is closer to stock but 205/45 16 is much closer to stock spec than the others.

The difference between 205 and 215 makes little difference on the street and if you are taking these to an autocross then you should think about a dedicated set of tires.

depends on your style, 16's are nice and subtle, 17's get noticed.. 16's u get extra tire.. some people want less tire for instance with a slammed look less tire looks better.. obviously you seem to car about function over form so i would say 16's..

for road racing some of the japanese high performance tuners (such as spoon and jun) use bigger rims and tires up front and a somewhat smaller rims and tire combo in the back. (learnd that from the options FF video great video)
but if you are turboed it wouldnt make a differnence what size u have (if they are light that is) b\c u have the power to get the car moving. and they kosies are light rims 15" 13.5 lbs 17" 15.5 lbs (info from the tire rack) they might be a lb lighter though. i have 17x7.5 k1s in anthracite on my dark voilet pearl gsr and i simply love them. i get complements on them all the time even by some domestic car owners. now i am not turboed yet (have all the parts but in the process of buying a trans so i ahve to put it off for a week b\c i blew my trans last nite) but the car defnelty doesnt feel much slower (rotational weight) SSB would look good with gunmetal (anthracite) k1s on it IMHO

I'd say go for 16s if you are getting rid of your current wheels for weight restrictions. The Tantrums are what, 18 lbs? There are very few rims that weigh a great deal less than this (for instance the TE-37 in that size is around 14-15 lbs)...
Going through all that hassle for only a pound or few savings won't be worth it to you, IMO.
Try to find the lightest weight 16s you can. Mine are 11.6 lbs and I noticed a huge difference over heavy 17s, and my car isn't even turbo'd yet.

Why not get 17's for when you cruise, and if you wanna race...use your stock 15's.

aaaahhhh! i can't decide! i'm used to the size of my 17's but i want 16's because i think they would be more functional. i sorta wanted a wheel that would look good and that i could use at the track, i hate switching out wheels at the track.

i could be wrong but i think the tantrums weigh more then 18lbs, i'll have to check that one out...

profilegsr, do you have a pic that i could see of your car, it may help me decide.

With 17's your car will hook up better since your turboed. Also it enhances handling at higher speeds. I like my 17's (rh cpo-35) I sure hook up a lot better on the street.

maybe some of these will help you decide?
Anyway, 16s are nice...trust me. 17's are great, but almost a little too big...I feel that this size looks perfect on a smaller car like ours. And for a performance wheel, you don't want anything bigger than 16"...even 15 is better, but 16 is a great compromise.

Because, if you're like me, 85% of the time or more you will be cruising or using the car for street driving, and thus using the 17s...You don't want to get stuck if a domestic owner revs on you (being that the circumstance is safe for a little dual), and you have the big heavy wheels that are going to dampen your launch.
I don't know...when I had 17s, it just felt like I had a super slow car (which I pretty much do)...but they just glorified it even more.
Real light 16s are versatile enough for street driving and the race track. 17s are sweet, no doubt, but the costs outweighs the benefits in my opinion and personal experience.

my stock wheels are long gone and besides i don't want to switch out wheels all the time anyway...if i do go with the 17's, i want to be able to race on them and if i really need some track wheels then i'll probably buy 2 more k1's in 15in. and throw some good drag radials on them.

How about some 16's with 225/40-16's Daniel?

That will get you traction. I think that is what Im gonna do. One of these days anyway.

17X7's are 19.2lbs each
17X8's are 22.9lbs each
17X9's are 23.0lbs each
