z6 tranny on b7 engine, still run in stock autox class?
Hey, I have an EX tranny in my civic lx (see sig). Will this keep me from running in the stock class in autocross? I'm asking this because of what it says in the rulebook:
"Option package conversions may be performed between specific vehicles of a particular make and mol, but only between configurations from within a particular model year. Such conversions must be totally complete and the resultant car must meet all requirements of this Section."
If this does break this rule, do you think the tech inspectors will notice? I wouldn't consider it cheating since the EX civic is in the same class as the LX civic.

would it be legal if i had the d16z6 engine complete with intake and exhaust manifolds? or would i have to get the ex brake setup and whatever other things to make the changeover "complete"

No it wont be legal.
If you wanted to "equip" your car as an "ex" it would need everything that the Ex had - any differences at all - like fuel tank, power options, sunroof, tranny, motor, etc, etc, etc all teh way down to the trim pieces.
Sell it and buy an Ex if thats what you want, or just go out and have fun and learn.

yea i just want to go out and have fun and learn. thing is since my car has such high mileage, when my 2nd gear started grinding, i put in an ex tranny. thanks for the help.
edit: what is the reasoning behind this rule? if both models are in the same class why would it make a difference?

so people won't "make" super cars.... for example take a 91 civic std hatch (like mine) and put a 91 civic si engine and tranny (like I did). Now I have the lightest car possible with the most powerful engine possible using parts "in the same class"
so now I'm at a distinct advantage over a stock 91 si hatch.... of course if I had left the std engine and tranny in the car, the stock si would have a big advantage over me, but that's just my bad for choosing the wrong car.
come on over to SP where it's just a "grey area" (actually, I think even in SP you have to swap the engine and tranny together, so you'd probably be illegal there too.)

a tranny swap alone will put you in SM.
and last i heard, the up/backdate ruling is no longer legal for SP/STS, so, you'll be in SM with the motor swap too.
honestly, you should be able to pick up a cheap DX tranny in GR from someone, and throw it in your hatch. check on ef-honda.com, all those guys are from GR.

ud/bd is only changed for sts/x. sp is still allowed ud/bd. that said, the tranny swap he has performed will still be illegal for fsp/dsp because the non-vtec cars are not on the same line in the sp listings, therefore not eligible for ud/bd. SM, EP, or DM/EM are the only places you can legally play with that tranny in that car.

you think they just wont catch it? i dont want to be dishonest but i really dont want to go through swapping trannies :/ would you guys be pissed off if i broke this rule knowningly even though i dont have an advantage?
swapping in a tach is FAR less important than a shorter geared tranny, and cannot be compared. its not a performance mod. in fact, i doubt there is a specific rule for it.
if anyone bitches about you swapping a tach equipped cluster in, tell them it's a safety device that prevents you from over-revving the motor.
honestly, no-one in the WMR or SBR region is going to be that big of a dick to complain about it. and if i'm at the event, i'll straighten them out for you
swapping in a EX/Si tranny WILL give you a performance advantage. if i lost 1st place to you because of what i (and SCCA) consider to be a major performance mod, i'd be wizzed off. think about it this way: by swapping in the EX/Si tranny into a DX hatch, i've heard of guys dropping nearly a full second off their 1/4mile time.

well im in a sedan. its not exactly a light car. i think im gonna run my first season like this anyways. I dont have the time to swap trannies. maybe after schools done. if i win or sumthing i wont claim it, you can hold me accountable for that.

don't sweat it. like RJ said, swap the tranny, and run in whatever SP class you need to. and just have fun with it. that's what it's all about anyway
i won't be in your class, so don't worry about running "against" me.
