on my way home tonite my muffler literally blew up on the highway!

let me explain, i dropped to pass this suv that was going slowly (and was previously riding my *** with her brights on) and i heard a weird noise coming from the engine bay area which kinda freaked me out .. then i started to hear like what sounded like some sort of pressure building up and a few seconds later a loud bang and a cloud of smoke behind my car

needless to say the car was extremely loud on the way home, when i got out to inspect the damages my muffler looked like it had burst at the seems

anyone ever heard of this sorta thing happening before or what could have caused it? im just gonna add to the list of bad luck ive encountered since finally being able to get purchase the car ive wanted for so long

wut kinda muffler was that anyway? and wut are ur mods, and motor? do u have a cat? resinator?

 

the only thing kinda close that i can think would do that is maybe running race gas on a cat.... just a thought...

the car is completely stock, i just got it recenlty, i wouldnt really count my aem short ram intake as a power mod

i guess ill go ahead and get a new exhaust, something i wasnt planning on doing for awhile, any suggestions on something that performs well but isnt too loud?

i was thinking maybe a greddy evo2 or sp2
