so i have a little bitof spave in my rear bumper and the rear hatch gate from a previous accident.....i have been smelling exhaust fumes which i thought were coming from the motor and entering through the vents.....i couldnt figure what was wrong so i took to this mechanic and he couldnt find any breaks or leaks in the motor either...so im assuming its entering through the rear.....its just weird cus ill smeel it on the highway so i would think it would be difficult for this to happen. i dunno any ideas what could be the deal and what i should do to fix it.......? thanx

Do you still have interior? I had a gutted hatch w/ GSR..and same hatch with a B20...Boy has a full interior B20 and @ WOT you can smell exhaust.

 

naw im fully gutted.....with no swap......how gay is that haha but it wasnt smellin until i smacked the rear on a guardrail. so im almost positive its seepin thru the gaps. im about to put this foam tape in the spaces and see whats up......i dunno

 

there is a little vent in the hback left corner of your car
it lets air exit the car behind the bumper
as we all know hatchbacks have a lot of drag
and air and exhaust likes to seep through that
vent. i just taped it shut and problem went away

i backed my red si into a telephone poll one time @ about 20 mph ing and then I had exhaust fumes in my hatch also i was running rich so I had a hella buzz all the time use duct tape
