D16A1 or A2...I don't recall the exact number. It's a twin cam D-series engine, anyway. I believe it made 118 BHP for the 89 and 90 models.
LS/VTEC is not possible. At least, not the traditional B-series head swap. You can, however, drop in a B-series engine if you like. I believe GReddy makes a turbo kit for your car as well.

d16a3 or 1, I think the 88-89 got the a3 they used that to signify that its the electronic advanced distrib set up, opposed to the vacume of the 86-87(and 3rd gen civic platforms).
Its essentually a ZC, but has weaker cams and a different intake mani(and a few other smaller differences)..
You cant LS/VTEC it because its not a b motor.... boost it and run Zdyne... or do a B swap, you already got the hard part coverd, the electronic advanced ignition...

Its a D16A1, blacktop. Its a DOHC NON V-tec engine that puts out 118 hp. Its differnt from the DOHC ZC's becasue the head is a bit different. The DOHC ZC has a more aggressive cams and stuff that the D16A1s. The g1 teg came with 2 differnt motors. The 86 and 87 came with a D16A1 DOHC browntop, at 113 hp while the 88 and 89 came with a black top. The differnce between the black and brown top is the brown tops compression ratio and the fuel magement. The browntops compression ratio is 9.3:1 while the blacktop (and All DOHC ZC) is 9.5:1.
You can boost this motor well, or you can go ZC. Also any B-sereis motor will work with a g1teg. Goto http://www.g1teg.org and you can find out all the differnt things you can do with a g1 preformance wise

There are both dual, and single cam ZC's. Even carbed ZC's.

Above is correct. The designation "ZC" is what honda called ANY D series 1.6litre engine sold ANYWHERE in ASIA, (not sure about Europe, though) The US/Canada never got ZC's.
There are many different ZC configurations. And HP ratings. The ONLY ZC configuration NEVER made by honda was DOHC-VTEC version.
And they are NOT compatible with the later B series engines.
The "LS" engine is a 1.8litre B Series NON-VTEC engine available in ALL 90-01 Integras. The 90-93 Integras had the B18A1, the 94-01 Integras had the B18B1.The 92-01 GS-R's and 97-01 TypeR's had VTEC.
