Someone said they saw in Sport Compact Car that the sound insulation mat under the carpet weighs 40 LBS! Is that true? Anyone ever remove/weigh it?

 

We scraped that crap ouy of a friends Gs-r.I wouldn't say it was 40 lbs.

 

Just did my friend's Civic. We used dry ice and a hammer.
All the insulation off the floor. The thick black insulation mat behind the dash, and all the foam stuff on the underside of the carpet.

I'd say combined it makes for 30lbs. max.

How do you use teh dry ice? Mike said to cut it into large cubes..what do you cut it with?

HX: The place I get dry ice from gives them to me in ~9" x 9" x 1" squares already.. so Ive never cut them. you can just break some off with the hammer though and repeat until you have enough.

 

That's the great thing about the dry ice. you put some down, crush it up with the hammer, you'll actually hear the sound deadening hardening/cracking and coming off the car. At worse you can move the ice away after a few minutes (to the next area you wanna remove the sound deadening from) and hit the sound deadening with the hammer, it'll break right off, just pick it up and toss it out.. wear gloves.. at best, the whole piece will come off without any effort.

 

Good tip on the gloves..tahst probably important with dry ice

 

not really.. depends on the person we were holding dry ice in our hands when taking the SD out of Nate's RX7.. not sure if it really wasn't that cold.. or if we were just too drunk to feel the pain?
